Library Renovation & Skate Park
After months of negotiations and discussions, a compromise agreement was reached with Weber County to move the library renovation forward. North Ogden City has agreed to donate the current Skate Park property for the library to create a new parking lot. Weber County has agreed to pay the full cost to relocate the Skate Park to another piece of City property. Weber County has also agreed to pay to build angled parking along 475 East. North Ogden agrees to expand the parking lot at the Senior Center within the next 8 years by approximately 70 stalls, to provide additional parking in the overall area. I want to thank Commissioner James Ebert for working with us to find an agreement that was fair to all sides. And huge thanks to the mayors and Council members from Pleasant View and Harrisville for their strong support through the entire process. Our three cities came together to ask for a better plan for our citizens and while we did not achieve everything we wanted, we reached a far better outcome than was originally planned. Possible locations under consideration for the new Skate Park are: The Community Gardens just east of the current Skate Park, northeast corner of North Ogden Park, and Wadman Park. A committee has been formed to review options and the City Council will then make a decision.
Road Work has been at full speed in North Ogden this year because of the $3/month “Transportation Utility Fee,” and the increase in the state gas tax, North Ogden City will be doing over $1 million in road work this summer—more than any previous year in recent City history. There will be chip seal overlays on 7 of the 10 busiest roads in the City, including: 2100 N, Elberta Dr., 3100 N., 1050 E., 3300 N., 3550 N., 450 East above 3100 N., and various neighborhood streets. They are using a new and improved synthetic chip that is lightweight and does not damage cars when kicked up. Many of these roads will receive a “leveling course” to smooth out patches in the asphalt before they are overlaid. In addition to making the roads more drivable, this massive amount of road work will significantly improve the lifespan of many of our most important roads. We will also be doing a large amount of crack sealing and other road work in multiple areas. Drive carefully in the many construction zones that will be active throughout the end of summer and early fall!
