Dear KidsOutAndAbout readers:

If I could have anything in the universe as a Mother's Day gift from my two kids, I know exactly what those two things would be. On the plus side: It would take only 10 seconds, max, per kid. On the minus side: It involves superpowers.

I'd ask my first child for a time machine to the past. I'd duck in for a second or two at crucial points in her and her sister's lives when I made my biggest mistakes—when I said something, did something, forgot something. I'd get there in the few seconds before those moments burned themselves into my brain as my most piercing regrets, change their trajectory 180 degrees, and duck out before anyone even noticed that the mom in the scenario had temporarily transformed into someone older, wiser, and a little more weather-worn.

I'd ask my second child for a telescope to the future. See, I desperately want to know that it all turns out okay. I'd focus in to when they're, say, 40. Five seconds of reassurance per kid to see that they end up happy and healthy and independent... that's all I'd need to set me up with confidence for the rest of my life.

But we moms can never actually get what we really want for Mother's Day, can we? So we take our delight in homemade jewelry and crayon drawings and sticky kisses. We keep chugging along, doing our best and learning from our mistakes, despite the regret and doubt we can't ever really alleviate.

Fortunately, even though no real-life superpowers are in our collective future for this Sunday, you can still get some superpower inspiration by taking in the new Avengers movie, Infinity War, with older kids or a partner. And if, while there, you take a 10-second peek or two at Chris Hemsworth or Chadwick Boseman or Sebastian Stan or Letitia Wright or whoever's biceps or brains float your boat, well, I certainly won't tell.

Easy Mother's Day Gifts That Kids Can Make or Do Themselves

But in practice, the littlest kids don't have too many skills for crafting yet, and older ones can get frustrated trying to make their artistic vision become reality. And while mothers are overjoyed with the thought and effort put into any gift, they also only have so much space in the house to display it all. Read on for ideas like a decoupage vase, homemade jewelry, flowers for the garden, a lip scrub. . . moms will love these easy, kid-made crafts, and kids will be proud!
