Sen. Lee Elected Chairman-Designate of Joint Economic Committee
WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued the following statement today after being elected chairman-designate of the Joint Economic Committee (JEC) in a meeting of Senate Republicans:
“I am honored to have been chosen to serve as Chairman of the Joint Economic Committee for the 116th Congress,” Sen. Lee said.
“Over the next two years, the JEC will expand its work on the Social Capital Project, our on-going research effort to emphasize the importance of America’s associational life and civil society. We will explore policies—federal, state, and local—to increase family stability and family time, improve the effectiveness of investment in youth, connect more people to work, and restore confidence in our institutions, all in service of expanding social and economic opportunity, especially for those families and communities being left behind by the status quo.
“I welcome the opportunity to collaborate with my House and Senate colleagues on both sides of the aisle as we work to improve the lives of all Americans.”
The Social Capital Project was started by Sen. Lee in 2017 while he was acting as Vice Chairman of the JEC, and has produced reports on marriage rates, unemployment, the opioid crisis, and other pressing issues. You can read more about the project here.
Sen. Lee’s selection as Chairman will be ratified by a vote of the full Joint Economic Committee following the House’s completion of its committee membership roster

America is suffering a security and humanitarian crisis because of our porous Southern border—and Congressional Democrats’ inaction on border security is deafening.
Vice President Mike Pence has asked for the American people to call Congress and tell them to provide President Trump with the border security funding that he’s asked for.
Find your Congressman’s phone number here and make that call today! Tell your representative to provide funding to secure the border and then re-open the government.
To assist you in your activism, we just published an issue guide on our website, complete with facts, talking points, and social media graphics.

Congressional Democrats are unwilling to secure the border. Call on Democrats to stop their partisan games and embolden Republicans to stand with President Trump in fighting to protect Americans.
Thank you for your activism, now let’s get this done!
