“You better watch out, you better not cry, better not pout, I’m telling you why: Santa Claus is comin’ to town!” Oh, wow; just where has the year gone? There are so many activities that are happening at this time of the year.
Pleasant View City Youth Council wants to thank everyone who donated canned food for our Trick-or-Treat Canned Food Drive! Our members sorted and delivered the canned food to people in need within the community. Youth City Council wishes everyone a jolly holiday season!
It seems strange to say Pleasant View City Tree Pickup is from December 26th to Jan 12th. Place trees on the curb and the City will pick them up and discard them for you.
We want to congratulate this year’s Sterling Scholars. Pleasant View City offered a good reminder: we live on a mountain; and with the colder weather, wild life may be sighted more often. Wild life could be anything from deer to cougars. There have not been any official sightings, but as a reminder with the cold, wild life do make their way down. Please keep an eye on your pets, animals, and small children.
Quarters & Cans fundraiser is Weber High’s way of providing Christmas for ten families in the community. Their goal is to raise $60,000. Ten families in the local area will receive Christmas gifts and money, and the Christmas Box House will have donations going there, too. A few other families will receive specific gifts, including a headstone for Zackary Kempe, who tragically passed away a few months ago, and a gift for Mayor Taylor’s family.
Wasatch Peaks have the Warm the Soles Fundraising program going on this season. Since 2006, Wasatch Peaks has raised over $130,000 which has provide over 5,000 pairs of shoes for our local elementary schools. Donations can be made at a local Wasatch branch.
Updates from Weber High:
Are you a sophomore who needs extra help in math? Then come to one of our Workshop Wednesday classes. Classes will be held by Ms. Cassity in Room #13 during FLEX. Classes are limited to the first 30 students who sign up each week.
Above and Beyond is up and running. Please nominate a Weber High staff who has gone out of their way to help you or a friend to become better. This is a great way to show them your appreciation. Nomination forms are in the main office.
Are you interested in a summer Job at North Shore? Bring your swimming suit and come learn what it takes to be an employee at North Shore (lifeguard, grounds, and cashier). Recruitment will be held on Saturday, December 15th, from 9-11am at Ben Lomond Pool.
Mayor Leonard Call wrote a touching message a few weeks ago and wanted to share:
I am writing this message the day after North Ogden Mayor Brent Taylor’s body returned to Utah. It has been with a heavy heart and a very profound sadness that I have been reflecting upon the state of our world. This tragic event and deep loss has reminded me of the great contrast of good and evil and the battle we must all face every day. On behalf of the citizens of Pleasant View, I wish to extend our deepest condolences to the family, loved ones and to our sister community of North Ogden as they have suffered the loss of a man that exemplified service. We have a tremendous respect for him as a family man, a leader, and we honor him for his love and service to his community and our Great Country.
As we approach this holiday season, let us remember that we are all in this together. That we are in a battle of good vs. evil and that bad people walk among us. But, let us have hope as there are heroes that also walk among us. I would hope that we could all step up our game and be a hero to someone that needs some help. There is someone out there that is in need of a helping hand; perhaps help with Christmas for their family, or maybe help with a holiday meal. Maybe it’s as simple as a visit and the gift of your time. Maybe it’s caring for a family member or friend that needs the reassurance that they are not alone or forgotten. We each have the ability to bring happiness and joy to someone in need. Let’s be their hero, not only this holiday season but throughout the year.
As usual, I feel like the old saying that “I’m preaching to the choir”. I have personally witnessed so many acts of kindness and generosity from our citizens. We have such amazing people in our community. Thanks for all you do and will do.
