Speaking to the new song, vocalist Tobi Duncan explained, "I wrote 'Old Soul' after deciding to really get to know my grandfather. I had always known he had had a crazy life, but I had only heard second- hand stories from my mother. I spent a few days just talking to him and learning about his life."
Duncan continues, "There is too much to go into, but needless to say he has had such a wealth of experience that I was stunned and humbled," he said. "It put into perspective everything I was going through at the time and taught me a lot about respect. He's 95 now and still going. The song is called 'Old Soul' because that is what he calls everyone as a term of endearment so I named it after him."
Last month, the band shared the single and music video for "Inside Out". The first single, "Shade", premiered on BBC's Radio 1 Rock Show with Daniel P. Carter in May.
Crown Shyness was produced by Andrew Wade (A Day To Remember, Neck Deep), and explores disparate emotions, juxtaposing hard-fought introspection against external strife to create a propulsive, captivating blend of punk and melodic hardcore.
Ultimately, Crown Shyness is overflowing with acceptance and understanding. Because Trash Boat don't shut the darkness out-they invite it in, knowing the only way to break through that canopy and into the sunlight above is to embrace life's obstacles head-on and work every day to defeat them.
Trash Boat is currently gearing up for headline shows with Broadside and Can't Swim at the end of May and are confirmed for UK's Slam Dunk Festival. They are on the road this summer for the entire and final cross country run of the 2018 Vans Warped Tour. A remaining list of dates can be found below. JULY 9, 2018 - New York, NY - Punk rock artist and women's empowerment activist, Shiragirl, is bringing back her infamous Shiragirl Stage to the 7/14 Holmdel, NJ date of the 2018 Vans Warped Tour. The stage strives to empower women artists by providing a platform for creative expression, and first made a highly successful comeback on the Pomona, San Diego and Ventura dates of the 2018 Vans Warped Tour. The lineup for this newly added date includes Shiragirl herself, who is an Oradell, NJ native, along with Babe Patrol, Blameshift, Reign of Z, Stop the Presses, Lex Rex and The Dragons and Best Ex. With deep roots on the East Coast, this "Punk Rock Madonna" first splashed onto the scene after crashing the Vans Warped Tour. As the legend goes, a young, determined Shira showed up in her iconic pink RV, created her own stage and performed atop it with her band. After receiving a rousing crowd response, Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman invited Shira to return the following summer to host an official Shiragirl Stage. The stage went on to host over 200 female-fronted bands, many making their Warped debuts, including Paramore on their first ever tour, and the legendary Joan Jett.
With the Shiragirl Stage, Shira accomplished her mission to inspire and empower women, by providing them a platform for creative expression. She also broke into the boys club, and made Punk Rock history. Shiragirl's story was featured in the book 'Misfit Summer Camp: 20 Years On The Road With The Vans Warped Tour'. She received an MTV Warpie Award, and a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Warped Tour Time Capsule Exhibit as well.
Since then, Shiragirl released a new EP, Brooklyn Goes Hollywood, which was produced by Tim Armstrong (Rancid, The Transplants, Pink, The Interrupters) and John King (Beastie Boys, Beck, Dust Brothers). The EP was lauded by AltPress, who commented, "Shiragirl challenges punk rule book [and] embraces solidarity between female musicians, on new EP Brooklyn Goes Hollywood."
In support, Shiragirl brought back her aforementioned stage to a handful of dates on the 2018 Vans Warped Tour, including Pomona, San Diego and Ventura, with Holmdel added after the success of the first three. Shiragirl will also perform on the Full Sail Stage at the Milwaukee and Indianapolis dates of the Vans Warped Tour, and will have her Brooklyn Goes Hollywood EP Release Party with fellow Women of the Warped Tour Shiragirl Stage, including Babe Patrol, Kiirstin Marilyn and special guests, at Coney Island Baby in New York City on 7/18.
