DNR Appoints New Division of Parks and Recreation Director

Salt Lake City (June 11, 2018) – Utah Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Executive Director Mike Styler has named Jeff Rasmussen, deputy director of the Utah Division of Parks and Recreation, as the Division’s new director.

Rasmussen has served successfully as the division’s interim director since March, when former director, Fred Hayes, passed away unexpected at his home in Heber City. Rasmussen has more than 25 years’ experience with State Parks and has served as the Division’s deputy director since 2012.

“If it’s not broke, don’t fix it. The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation has been successfully managed and thriving in recent years. Jeff’s contribution to that success is obvious and commendable,” said Styler. “Our state parks system is in wonderful shape. Jeff has tremendous passion and shares Fred’s vision of success. We will move forward continuing to meet the growing needs of outdoor recreation in Utah and aggressively developing and creating new recreational opportunities statewide.”

Rasmussen began his State Parks career in 1992 as a park ranger at Antelope Island State Park. He was later assigned to Palisade State Park, where he served as park ranger for five years. In 1998 he became the assistant park manager at Yuba State Park and was later promoted to park manager in 2002. Prior to his assignment as deputy director, Rasmussen served as manager of the North Region overseeing the parks in that area.

“I’m thankful for the support and confidence placed in me to lead State Parks forward. Our 44 state parks and programs play a critical role in meeting the growing outdoor recreation needs of Utah families, including boating, off-highway vehicle adventures, hiking, golfing, camping and reliving our past at historical parks and museums,” Rasmussen said. “The Division continues to experience significant growth year after year and we’re committed to adding new and exciting recreational activities and amenities to meet the increasing demand.”

Rassmussen came to Utah to attend Brigham Young University where he earned his B.S. degree in geography and a minor in natural resources.

VENTURA COUNTY FAIRGROUNDS

June 12, 2018 - Ventura, CA - Vans Warped Tour has announced they will partner with the City of Ventura and the Ventura Land Trust for this year's service day. On June 25th, volunteers will help clean up the River Estuary at the Ventura County Fairgrounds (the same location where the Vans Warped Tour will take place), which has been badly damaged by invasive species, litter, and debris following the devastating fires and landslides earlier this year.

Volunteers will stay at the venue the night of June 24th, where a benefit and barbecue will take place to benefit the Thomas Firefighters. The following day, volunteers will work between 8 AM and 1 PM on litter cleanup, invasive plant removal, and habitat restoration. Breakfast and lunch will both be catered. Showers and restrooms will also be available onsite.

Every year, Vans Warped Tour hosts a service day to give back to the communities and cities that the tour stops in. Previous service days have included working with Journey Through Hallowed Ground to plant trees in Gettsyburg, cleaning up areas affected by flooding in Nashville, and improving parks in Western Maryland.

June 12, 2018 - Charlotte, NC - Melodic hardcore legends Hopesfall are thrilled to share "Tunguska," the second single from the band's forthcoming album, Arbiter. Fans can listen to the song and check out an exclusive interview now on Alternative Press. Arbiter is the long-awaited follow up to 2007's Magnetic North, and marks the band's first record in over a decade. The album will be released on July 13th, 2018 via Graphic Nature / Equal Vision Records and can be pre-ordered now at hopesfall.lnk.to/arbiter.

On the new track, the band shares: "INSERT QUOTE."

Hopesfall formed in 1998. Over the next decade, the band would undergo numerous line-up changes but always drew from the same core group of lifelong friends to source new members. The bond between the group was so strong that even after disbanding in 2008, guitarists Joshua Brigham and Dustin Nadler and drummer Adam Morgan continued to get together on Wednesday nights to work on new music despite having no plans to release it. It was during these jam sessions that the music that would eventually find its way onto Arbiter first began to take shape.

In 2012, Brigham and Morgan visited frontman, Jay Forrest, in Chicago culminating in the decision that Forrest would add vocals to the demos. The lineup for the band's reformation would then be cemented in August of 2015 when bassist, Chad Waldrup, joined the group to see Hum and Failure. Still, the idea of putting out new music as Hopesfall wasn't part of the plan. With the lineup complete, the band brought their demos to another trusted collaborator - producer Mike Watts (Glassjaw, Dillinger Escape Plan, O'Brother) whom they had worked with on two previous releases, Magnetic North and A Types. It was Watts who brought the demos to Dan Sandshaw and Will Putney of Graphic Nature / Equal Vision Records where the idea of releasing it as a Hopesfall record was finally discussed. A testament to the band's hard-earned legacy, the famed label immediately jumped on the opportunity to release the project.

Arbiter has a decidedly unique bend to it, but Brigham points out that it is built off of the same principles as Hopesfall's previous catalog - "big riffs and dark melodies." Forrest adds that the driving message of Arbiter remains the same as well: "Hopes fall. Tragedies happen. But that doesn't mean you should give up or not stay the course."

Arbiter is set for release on July 13th via Graphic Nature / Equal Vision Records. It is at once a reminder of why the band has become so influential and a beacon of its continued evolution. Look for Hopesfall to support the release with select tour dates later this year.

The band will take the stage for the first time since 2011 for two special shows at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn on July 13th and for Kerrang Presents on July 14th. They will also be performing at Neighborhood Theatre in Charlotte on July 21st. Tickets for all three shows are available now at hopesfall.net.
