With the end of the year looming, it’s natural to think about the future. For family businesses, that future could include a change in leadership. In fact, according to author Raméz Baassiri, succession planning and an eye toward the future is a necessity to ensure the survival of any family business, no matter the size, and failure to do so is one reason why most family businesses don't make it past the second generation.

Baassiri says family businesses who don’t tackle the hard questions about succession now are gambling with their futures – and their legacies.

Bank of Utah, Arctic Circle Restaurants and Red Hanger team up for annual

Warm Bodies, Warm Souls Coat Drive to benefit 10 Utah charities

Arctic Circle and Red Hanger offer special incentives for people to drop off donations

OGDEN, Utah, Nov. 13, 2018 – Three well-known Utah-based businesses are partnering once again to collect warm coats, blankets and clothing to give to 10 local charities across the state. Bank of Utah, Arctic Circle Restaurants and Red Hanger are co-sponsoring the seventh annual Warm Bodies, Warm Souls coat drive Nov. 19 – Dec. 14. The public is invited to collect new or gently-used coats, hats, scarves, gloves, socks and blankets and drop them off at any of Bank of Utah’s 14 full-service bank branches and additional mortgage offices; Arctic Circle’s 33 restaurants from Tremonton to Spanish Fork and Red Hanger’s 23 locations along the Wasatch Front.

To urge participation from the community, Arctic Circle is offering a coupon for a free double cheese burger to those who donate at their restaurants, and Red Hanger will give customers a certificate for a free shirt cleaning for donating at their dry cleaner locations. Bank of Utah will offer the coupons for donating at their bank locations.

“The combined strength and resources of the Warm Bodies, Warm Souls partners has helped make donating more convenient, with a total of 70 locations,” said Douglas L. DeFries, Bank of Utah president. “Bank of Utah started the Warm Bodies, Warm Souls coat drive in 2011, as part of our effort to give back to our bank communities. Arctic Circle Restaurants and their foundation, Arctic Cares, joined us in 2014, which broadened the reach of the campaign through their 33 locations and their in-store and direct mail advertising. And now, for the second year, we’re excited to have Red Hanger’s wonderful help. Not only do they offer 23 drop-off locations, but they also generously use their trucks to pick up and collect the donations until we give them to the charities. We are extremely grateful to these generous partners.”

After Dec. 14, Bank of Utah will distribute donations to the following charities:

  • Joyce Hansen Hall Food Bank - Ogden
  • The Lantern House - Ogden
  • Cache Community Food Pantry - Logan
  • Tremonton Community Pantry - Tremonton
  • Family Support Center - Brigham City
  • Community Action Services and Food Bank - Orem
  • Crossroads Urban Center - Salt Lake City
  • The Road Home - Salt Lake City
  • Bountiful Community Pantry - Bountiful
