OGDEN, Utah (June 10, 2019) –- It can be a nightmare call for first responders: someone has collapsed or fallen, but they are trapped 120 feet above the ground. How can the emergency crews reach them in time and bring them to the ground safely?
Such rescues require specialized training, which can be hard to come by in areas with few tall structures. On Thursday May 16, nine area fire departments and fire districts spent the day at the Scoular Grain Facility in Ogden learning and practicing such “high angle” rescues. The training also included best practices in saving someone being engulfed inside a grain elevator. In such emergencies, every second counts, and hands-on experience can change outcomes.
The 28 trainees used mechanical devices and rope systems to repel from the top of the grain bin to the ground, then practiced a variety of scenarios to lower mock victims -- either to safety or to a medical team.
“It was extremely beneficial to be able to gain a better understanding of the facility and what obstacles we could encounter,” says Captain Chris Whetton of the Weber Fire District. “Thanks again [to Scoular] for allowing us the opportunity to train at your facility. I know that this was also an eye-opening experience for the people that work around your facility every day.”
Scoular’s Ogden Grain Facility rises approximately 120 feet from the ground, the equivalent of an 8- to 10-story building. Participating fire departments included:

"['Tether'] then breaks in a guitar-laden climax, as our senses are ignited
with sentiments ranging from wistful to euphoric." - EARMILK
Brooklyn, NY - June 14, 2019 - Self-proclaimed sad-pop act EXNATIONS has released a brand new single from their forthcoming EP Pink Haze. Fans can check out the vibrant "John Hughes Movie Soundtrack" now on Spotify. "John Hughes Movie Soundtrack" is the second track to be released from Pink Haze and follows "Tether," which was previously featured on EARMILK and All Things Go. Pre-orders for Pink Haze, which is set to be released on June 28th, are available now at www.exnations.com.
"Is there anything that depicts American adolescence for babies of the 80s and 90s more wistfully than John Hughes movies? Since we started EXNATIONS, several friends and fans have told me our songs sound like something out of a John Hughes movie," shares vocalist Sal Mastrocola."So we decided to lean into that compliment. And to get even more meta with it - we spun a story of a protagonist longing for a past that never existed - hiding away in detention with the kids from the Breakfast Club and the lovebirds of Sixteen Candles when the real world beats her down."
The band will be supporting their new EP with The Pink Haze Tour, presented by idobi Anthm. The summer run kicks off July 6th in Cincinnati and will close out with a hometown album release show at Brooklyn's Gold Sounds on July 13th.
EXNATIONS are an indie pop band out of Brooklyn, NY; comprised of Sal Mastrocola, Taylor Hughes, and John O'Neill. Although self-defined as a 'sad' band, their color palette remains neon, penning compositions that steadily rise from somber lows of deep purple towards anthemic highs of vibrant pink and blue.
The band's debut release, Tiny Sound In The Dark, is a more-than-promising effort, laced with sparkle and anticipation. The group's knack for memorable hooks and danceable rhythms are clear, but what's even more compelling about EXNATIONS is the anthemic sense of empowerment the trio produces on their first effort.
Their forthcoming sophomore EP, Pink Haze, deals from the warm halcyon embrace of nostalgia. Beautiful and all-enveloping, it's so easy to get lost in. But over the course of the record, the band arrives at the conclusion that the haze of nostalgia best serves us when we find a way through it. When we can look at the past honestly and critically, we've got our best shot at true growth and progression.
Hazy and dream-like, yet bursting with passion and energy, EXNATIONS is a fitting metaphor for the world in 2019. It's sad, but we're still dancing.
EXNATIONS will release their new EP Pink Haze on June 28th, 2019. Pre-orders are available now at www.exnations.com.

THE DARLING FIRE
Releases New Album
Dark Celebration
Out Now via Spartan Records
Available At spr.tn/darkcelebration
Streaming via Spotify and Apple Music
Previously Featured on Billboard, Brooklyn Vegan,
Kerrang & More
South Florida - June 14, 2019 - The wait is over for Indie rock band The Darling Fire's debut album. Dark Celebration is out now via Spartan Records and has recently been heralded by Billboard, Brooklyn Vegan, Kerrang, and more. The album can be purchased online at spr.tn/darkcelebration, or streamed via Spotify and Apple Music.
On the new record, the band shares: "We're excited about what has come from a collaboration of friends, which reflects the trials and tribulations we're celebrating moving on from, through the music we've created."
The Darling Fire will be celebrating their debut album with back to back album release shows at New York City's famed Arlene's Grocery tonight, Friday, June 14th, and tomorrow, Saturday, June 15th. Tickets are available at www.arlenesgrocery.net.
Spartan Records proudly welcomed The Darling Fire to its esteemed and growing roster last year - a veritable mosaic of indie notoriety featuring Jolie Lindholm (The Rocking Horse Winner, Dashboard Confessional) on vocals/guitar, Jeronimo Gomez on guitar (The Rocking Horse Winner, As Friends Rust), Steven Kleisath on drums (Further Seems Forever, Shai Hulud), Gregg Moore on bass (Slap of Reality) and Matthew Short on guitar.
After years of individual success in some of the scene's most beloved bands, The Darling Fire was born of both deep struggle and deeper friendships. "Jeronimo and I had a particularly difficult end of the year in 2017," says Lindholm. "We'd been wanting to write music together for awhile, but life kept getting in the way. The tough time we were having made us realize that life is short and there was no better time. We didn't specifically set out to start a band, per se. It just began to materialize as things started changing, once we started to share what we were working on. It almost took on a life of its own and kept pushing us to move forward, to make this into a real thing."
Looking at the The Darling Fire's impressive roster, the band's debut release, Dark Celebration, is in many ways what you'd anticipate - energetic, powerful, melodic, and heavy; however, it is far more nuanced than you would imagine. The collective sum of the parts and the alluring heart-on-sleeve lyrics produce a more intimate, spacey and bewitching experience - an authenticity that speaks to the true cathartic nature of the project. "The album is really a celebration of dark themes and experiences that have occurred in our lives both personally and distantly," says Short.
Selecting the right producer to bring the Dark Celebration vision to life was of paramount importance. In all the band's discussions, there was one name that seemed appropriate for a project of this magnitude - J. Robbins. Aside from the list of impressive production credits (The Dismemberment Plan, The Promise Ring, Against Me!), Robbins was also a formative member of some of The Darling Fire's favorite bands (Jawbox, Burning Airlines, Government Issue). The result of this collaboration was a powerful coalescence of artistry and vision - the record that five artists spent their entire careers waiting to make. "This band feels like a family," says Lindholm, "We're all facing the challenges of what is to come together, with eyes wide open. Regardless of where we are in our lives, there is always the opportunity to start anew - to find fresh inspiration and kinship."
Without evoking too many cliches, while the darkness can be disorienting, there is a beauty in its temporariness. It requires a great amount of courage to confront the unknown in its purest form, but rarely is regret the outcome of this process.
