Principal News
Welcome Back! Summer flew by quickly! I hope you enjoyed BBQs, family time, sleeping in, reading a good book or two, and time to relax. I’m excited to see each of you at Back to School Night! I hope you have been recording your Superintendent Reading this summer. Through the generous donations of businesses in our area and parents shopping at Lee’s and Smith’s grocery stores, we have been able to purchase 8 Kindle Fires! These Kindle Fires will part of the drawing we will have for each student who participated in the Superintendent Reading this summer. This summer, I dusted off my passport and took a journey to foreign lands. I saw new sites, experienced new cultures, and enjoyed different foods. During that trip, I kept track of how many steps I took. I walked 276,423 steps, which is equal to 108 miles. There were times in the heat of the day I didn’t want to walk another step! However, every time I felt that way, I knew I needed to push on or I would miss an opportunity to take a beautiful or unusual picture, creating visual evidence of my journey.
Every new school year is like a journey for each of our students. There is a feeling of excitement getting new school supplies, clothes, and shoes. The first day of school arrives, and he/she meets new students and gets to know a new teacher. Each day new learning experiences are created, filling his/her mind with new information. At times the journey of learning may tire a student out and he/she may want to give up. That crucial moment is when the guiding voices of teachers, parents, and other adults whisper encouragement, giving a student courage to continue on.
Thank you for entrusting our school with your student for the year! We work hard with you to educate each student. Rita Pierson said it best "Every child deservesa champion: an adult who will never give up on them, who
understands the power of connection and insists they become the best they can possibly be." ~Miss Wright
From the Nurse
All students grade 1-6 will have a vision screening sometime in the month of September or October. Kindergarten children will be screened in October or November. If you do not want your child screened, please send a note to the school nurse. Signs that a child may have vision problems include: constant eye rubbing, extreme light sensitivity, poor focusing, poor visual tracking (following an object), abnormal alignment or movement of the eyes, chronic redness or tearing of the eyes, a white pupil instead of black, inability to see objects at a distance, inability to read the board, squinting, difficulty reading, sitting too close to the TV. If caught early, eye conditions often can be reversed. Scoliosis screening will be done on 5th and 6th grade students in the spring.
