North Ogden—The Kiwanis Club of North Ogden recently helped some schools in the Weber School District receive new public address systems to help students and teachers perform better in the classroom. The club contributed $3,000, with the Weber School Foundation matching that donation. Craig Dearden donated another $3,000 which brought the total to $9,000 to be used to purchase the systems. So how do these systems work? Kiwanis member John Reynolds best summarized it in an e-mail by saying, “The PA system helps teacher in their classroom by allowing the teacher to be heard by students without having to shout or talk loudly. He or she wears a microphone around their neck, which is picked up by a receiver and transmitted in that classroom only. There is a student hand held microphone which can be used when a student needs to make a report or to answer a question.” The systems are sure to be a great addition to the classroom to help everyone learn better.
Of course, giving back to the community is nothing new for the Kiwanis Club. Last year was full of numerous examples of the Club donating money and time to several worthy causes throughout North Ogden, Pleasant View, Harrisville, and other surrounding areas. A few examples include: presenting the Hope of America and Achievement awards to deserving students; donating books to six elementary schools, with over 25,000 books being donated over the last ten years; helping out at the Easter Egg Hunt and Cherry Days in North Ogden, with a pancake breakfast being served at Cherry Days for over 30 years; and helping four families receive food and money for Christmas. The club has also helped provide money to help students travel to debate competitions and fencing competitions.
It goes without saying that the club has definitely gone above and beyond to help out as many people as they can over the last 68 years; and, it’s something they will strive to keep doing for the next 68 years and beyond.
