Statement from Farm Sanctuary President on Iron County Pig Truck Accident

Monday, April 16, 2018 - 11:45am

I’d like to provide the following statement from Gene Baur, president and co-founder of Farm Sanctuary, America’s leading farm animal protection organization, regarding the pigs involved in the overturned truck accident that happened on Friday on state Route 20 in Iron County, Utah:

“Farm animals endure intolerable cruelty every day in factory farms, slaughterhouses and in transit, and their abuse is largely hidden. Our hearts go out to the pigs who were injured and died after a semitractor-trailer hauling approximately 1,900 pigs tipped over on state Route 20 in Iron County, Utah on Friday. We are hopeful that those still on the loose will be safely captured and given the opportunity to recover from this traumatic ordeal at a sanctuary. Our hearts also break for the millions who suffer silently every day outside of public view. If you’d like to help prevent this kind of animal cruelty, please consider decreasing your consumption of meat.”

Gene about this accident and the general prevalence of transport accidents involving farm animals. I can be reached at mturner-smith@farmsanctuary.org or 646-369-6212.

Thanks so much,
