April 16, 2019 - New Jersey rock band Gatherers has shared "Sick, Sad Heart," a visceral new single unlike anything they've ever written. Fans can enter the band's darkly captivating world by streaming the song exclusively on Kerrang.
"We wanted it to be moody but mechanical; melodically pretty but gross in tonality. This one lives in a completely different world from the songs on 'We Are Alive Beyond Repair'," shares vocalist Rich Weinberger. "Rob primarily plays baritone guitar and an OP-1, creating this ugly identity for the song. The drums sound huge and dynamic with Adam's performance alongside our new bassist Zach Crockett. They pushed the song to move in ways completely different from our previous material."
He continues: "Musically, we were in part inspired by Radiohead's "Climbing Up The Walls" and the album Full Collapse by Thursday. The lyrics were written from a visual place as always. Although there's no singular subject at hand, for me the song conjured up themes and visuals of inheritance, evil, sexuality, paranoia and masochism. To me, this song is the kind of dream where your teeth start falling out. It's this constant ringing stuck behind your eyes every minute of the hour. It exists under the skin, tempting you to cut it out. The song looks like the contrast of blood against the porcelain in your sink."
That there's light at the end of the tunnel is a cliché often rolled out to those going through a bad time. But what if that's not true? What if the darkness of that tunnel just stretches on forever and there is no light, no salvation, no hope? Those were the circumstances of 2018's We Are Alive Beyond Repair, the third full-length album from Gatherers - sonically and lyrically, it's a bleak, brutal, nihilistic record that's shrouded in such despair and anguish that there's no chance whatsoever for escape. And that's just how the five-piece like it.
Weinberger took, as he always has done, inspiration from visual art, while the band - completed by bassist Matt Popowski, drummer Adam Cichocki, and guitarists Anthony Gesa and Rob Talalai - sought to create a soundtrack to an imagined palette of colors, to create an atmosphere based on abstractions and turn it into something altogether more visceral and real.
Gatherers' newest offering, the single "Sick Sad Heart," evokes many of the same harrowing images of the band's most recent full-length: "You found my heart wrapped in bandage tape." Weinberger sings in longing for understanding, layered with screams that weigh heavy on the song's dark thematics. Static-laden, gritty instrumentals bolster a devastating lyrically-spun narrative. Yet simultaneously, "Sick Sad Heart" explores once-uncharted territory for the band, seeing not only the addition of bassist Zach Crockett but a foray into broader, more unsettling instrumentals.
The result is a spine-chilling interpretation of what post-hardcore can be, one which is at once familiar but also pushes the boundaries of the genre to extremes. That constant wall of sound, built around layers of sumptuous but brooding atmospherics, is both powerful and fragile, simultaneously collapsing while it also holding all the fractured emotions contained within its folds in place. And although We Are Alive Beyond Repair and "Sick Sad Heart" evoke different landscapes, taken together, the releases weave a complicated yet cohesive sonic quilt; a savage but thrilling journey into that dark, never-ending tunnel of nihilism.

Governor appoints Kerry Gibson as Commissioner for the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food
SALT LAKE CITY (Apr. 15, 2019) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert has appointed Kerry Gibson to serve as commissioner for the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food, following LuAnn Adams’ announcement that she will retire.
“Kerry Gibson is extraordinarily well prepared to serve as commissioner for the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food,” said Gov. Herbert. “His experience as a legislator, a county commissioner, and especially as a dairy farmer himself, will serve him well as he works with Utah’s farmers, ranchers, and other important members of our agricultural community.”
Prior to this appointment, Gibson most recently served as deputy director for the Department of Natural Resources. He has also served as a commissioner for Weber County, and in the Utah House of Representatives. During his time as a state representative, Gibson was the chair of the Natural Resources Appropriations Committee, where he oversaw the state’s budget for the Department of Natural Resources and the Department of Agriculture and Food, amongst others.
“It is truly an honor to have been nominated by Governor Herbert as the commissioner of the Utah Department of Agriculture and Food,” Gibson said. “I express my gratitude to all of those who work so hard every day to provide food and fiber for a grateful nation. Working together with all Utahns, we can make Utah an even better place to live and thrive.”
This appointment is subject to confirmation by the Utah Senate. Prior to confirmation, Gibson will serve as interim director for the Department of Agriculture and Food, effective immediately.Ogden to become second city in Utah with shared e-scooters
Ogden, UT – Lime, the leading smart mobility company, will launch up to 300 scooters in Ogden starting April 19th, with the possibility of more scooters added based on demand. The duration of the initial program is three months.
Lime is the largest shared scooter and bike provider in the United States, operating in more than 100 cities on five continents, with more than 34 million rides already taken. The collaboration between the City of Ogden and Lime will help reduce congestion and pollution, and connect people to public transit. About ⅓ of scooter users say they would have driven or taken rideshare if not for a scooter, and 20 percent of Lime users state their last trip was to connect to a public bus or train.
"Ogden has undergone such a tremendous transformation in the past decade. The scale of the downtown area was practically made for scooters,” said Nate Currey, General Manager of Lime in Utah. “With the investment of new complete streets-type infrastructure happening, scooter riders can discover Ogden in a new, safe and compelling way.”
“The arrival of Lime is a great complement to our efforts to build out our bike network and will also help more people experience our great downtown businesses,” said Ogden Mayor Mike Caldwell. “The first and last mile solutions for public transit users will prove to be a win-win situation in our community.”
The city will celebrate the arrival of Lime on April 18th at 10:30am in front of the Municipal Building. Remarks will be given by Mayor Caldwell, Jonathan Hopkins from Lime, and Beth Holdbrook, board trustee from UTA. Attendees will be able to see the Lime scooters, learn about how to ride safely, and get a free Lime helmet while supplies last. Scooters will be available to ride on the streets of Ogden starting the morning of Friday, April 19th.
The helmet distribution is part of Lime’s $3 million investment in its “Respect The Ride” campaign to encourage safe riding behavior and educate communities around safety. More details about our Respect The Ride campaign can be found online at https://www.li.me/respect-the-ride. For those not attending the kickoff event, Lime and the City of Ogden have partnered to offer free helmets on a first-come first-serve basis at The Corner, operated by the City of Ogden, to those who visit Monday to Saturday during the hours of 10 am to 7pm.
Lime is also pleased to make its Lime Access program available in Ogden. Lime Access allows users who demonstrate enrollment in a city, county, state or federal low income program to receive at least a 50 percent discount on our services. For those enrolled, scooters will be $0.50 to unlock and $0.07 a minute to ride. College students receiving financial aid also qualify.
