HSU offers $3,000 reward to solve waterfowl poaching case

Humane Society of Utah adds a reward for information leading to arrest in Davis County waterfowl killing

The Humane Society of Utah is offering a $3,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for the illegal killing of 25 waterfowl in Davis County. HSU hopes to assist the Division of Wildlife Resources in obtaining information required to identify and charge whoever is responsible for these criminal acts.

Fifteen Canada geese and 10 ducks were found dead near the Howard Slough Waterfowl Management area Jan. 25, by Division of Wildlife Resources officials. The waterfowl had been left to waste, according to a DWR news release.

“Those responsible for this wasteful and blatant behavior need to know there are consequences for their actions,” said Gene Baierschmidt, executive director of the Humane Society of Utah.

HSU is asking anyone with information regarding this case to contact the UTiP hotline at 1-800-662-3337, or call John Fox, HSU animal cruelty investigator, at 801-261-2919 ext. 210. Tips can remain anonymous.
