Situational awareness - March 19, 2019

Good Tuesday morning from Salt Lake City.

Here are the stories we're following today:

  • Biskupski abruptly drops her re-election bid.
  • We were the first to get our hands on a confidential report alleging misconduct against GOP Chairman Rob Anderson. Hardliners inside the party are setting the stage to possibly oust Anderson or damage a potential bid for another term if he runs.
  • Deutsche Bank loaned President Trump billions of dollars even though he routinely lied about his net worth and defaulted on other loans.

Political bracket face-off begins today

We'll launch the first 8 matchups in our 2019 political bracket face-off later this morning. You can vote on our website, Twitter or Facebook. Check out the brackets here.

Tiny theater review

I was in the audience for the Pioneer Theater Company's concert production of La Cage Aux Folles on Saturday night. The show was mostly a delight. The actors playing Albin and Georges both soared in those roles despite the stripped-down production. However, the inclusion of former Sen. Jim Dabakis in the cast as Edouard Dindon was a sour note in an otherwise ebullient presentation.
