The track is the latest from the band's forthcoming debut EP, Living With The Low, recorded/produced by Matt Brasch of The Wonder Years, mixed by Nick Steinborn of The Wonder Years, and mastered by Bill Henderson of Thursday. "'Mediocrity gets you (Des)pears' is a song about sitting on my porch drunk at 3am by myself feeling stuck, depressed, and frustrated," shares lead singer Mike Dougherty. "I was so fixated on the thought of slipping into cycle of normality, 'failed musician works a job he hates for the rest of his life'-type thoughts, that I almost up and quit everything that night. I almost quit my bands... I was too depressed to write anything, and I felt like I was hindering our progress of the record. I figured they'd be better off without me."
He continues: "I almost quit my jobs... I was working at a place that seemed like it was consuming all my time to a point where I didn't even have the energy to be creative. I just was mentally and physically drained. I felt like I could almost see into my future of working dead end job to dead job my whole life..... So in short, this song's pretty much about one big inebriated panic attack triggered by the thought of being a lifer in the restaurant biz.
However, none of the lyrical content reflects the actual video itself, because making that beer was fun as hell!"
Merit is a pop-punk band from Lansdale, PA. Since forming in 2016 the group has played up and down the east coast, growing their underground fan base with their catchy hooks and exciting live shows.
They will be releasing their third record, Living with the Low, on July 26th, 2019. The record was recorded and produced by Matt Brasch (of The Wonder Years), mixed by Nick Steinborn (also of The Wonder Years), and mastered by Bill Henderson (of Thursday).
To coincide with the release of Living with the Low, they are teaming up with local brewery, Imprint Brewing, to brew, can, and release a blood orange/pineapple/cherry/milkshake IPA dubbed "Pop-Punch," which will also be available starting July 26th.
Touring in early July and fall 2019, Merit sets their sights on pushing further west.

The song comes from Van Deusen's forthcoming album, (I Am) Origami Pt. 3 - A Catacomb Hymn, out this Friday, July 19th via Tooth & Nail Records. "The music video for 'Whatever Makes You Mine' was a collaboration between myself and director Ben Park. Ben and I had been discussing the possibility of writing and shooting a short horror film...and then we decided we could start with a music video to see how it felt working together," shares Van Deusen. "We really had a great time shooting this video near the Salton Sea east of San Diego; it's a hauntingly beautiful place. The beginning of the video features Slab City, a legendary desert community. The vehicle I'm driving around is my own car, 'Elsa'. She's the best."
He continues: "The creature that stalks me is supposed to be a combination of Sasquatch and something more cosmic. Obviously, it represents my own dark side. The theme of tension and duality within my own personality is prevalent on the album; I wanted to represent it visually in a simple and clear way."
John Van Deusen creates aggressively honest, thematically rich power pop. His style is built on a strange foundation of influences, resulting in an indie rock sound that feels both familiar and curious. From his early career in The Lonely Forest (Trans/Atlantic Records) to his recent outings as a solo recording artist, intimacy and vulnerability have been hallmarks of his songwriting. Consider his work as a little note that says, "It's okay to not be okay."
Van Deusen currently lives in Anacortes, Washington, with his wife and cat, and helps run a board game store. He also yells and plays bass in the hardcore punk band BUFFET.

JULY 1 CATTLE INVENTORY UNCHANGED
All cattle and calves in the United States on July 1, 2019 totaled 103 million head, unchanged from the 103 million head on July 1, 2018.
All cows and heifers that have calved, at 41.7 million head, were slightly below the 41.8 million head on July 1, 2018. Beef cows, at 32.4 million head, were unchanged from a year ago. Milk cows, at 9.30 million head, were down 1 percent from previous year.
All heifers 500 pounds and over on July 1, 2019 totaled 16.4 million head, 1 percent above the 16.3 million head on July 1, 2018. Beef replacement heifers, at 4.40 million head, were down 4 percent from a year ago. Milk replacement heifers, at 4.10 million head, were down 2 percent from previous year. Other heifers, at 7.90 million head, were 5 percent above a year earlier.
Steers 500 pounds and over on July 1, 2019 totaled 14.7 million head, up 1 percent from July 1, 2018.
Bulls 500 pounds and over on July 1, 2019 totaled 2.10 million head, unchanged from July 1, 2018.
Calves under 500 pounds on July 1, 2019 totaled 28.1 million head, down 1 percent from July 1, 2018.
Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in the United States for all feedlots totaled 13.6 million head on July 1, 2019. The inventory is up 2 percent from the July 1, 2018 total of 13.3 million head. Cattle on feed in feedlots with capacity of 1,000 or more head accounted for 84.4 percent of the total cattle on feed on July 1, 2019, down slightly from previous year. The combined total of calves under 500 pounds and other heifers and steers over 500 pounds (outside of feedlots) is 37.1 million head. This is slightly above the 37.0 million head on July 1, 2018.
CALF CROP DOWN SLIGHTLY
The 2019 calf crop in the United States is expected to be 36.3 million head, down slightly from last year's calf crop. Calves born during the first half of 2019 are estimated at 26.5 million head, down slightly from the first half of 2018. An additional 9.80 million calves are expected to be born during the second half of 2019.
