Treasurer Damschen to lead the National Association of State Treasurers as the 2019 president

SCOTTSDALE, AZ – October 1, 2018 – Utah State Treasurer David Damschen today was elected by his fellow state treasurers to serve as the 2019 president of the National Association of State Treasurers (NAST). NAST is a bipartisan association comprised of state treasurers and state finance officials with comparable responsibilities.

“I am honored to lead this national bipartisan association that has for more than four decades addressed some of the country’s toughest fiscal challenges,” Treasurer Damschen said. “NAST provides a wealth of knowledge and resources to treasurers across the country, as we work to improve the nation’s aging infrastructure, strengthen public pension systems, prudently invest public funds, effectively manage public debt, address issues of cybersecurity, help our citizens achieve financial security, reunite unclaimed properties with rightful owners and so much more.”

NAST serves its members through educational conferences and webinars, a variety of working groups, policy advocacy and publications that provide information about developments in public finance.

Treasurer Damschen served as the 2017 chairman of the NAST Legislative Committee and the 2018 NAST senior vice president alongside the current NAST president, Vermont State Treasurer Beth Pearce.

“It has been my distinct honor to work closely with Treasurer Pearce this year. I am grateful for her leadership, vision and tireless service that have taken NAST to the next level,” Treasurer Damschen said.

Gov. Herbert activates Utah National Guard in anticipation of flash flood threats in Utah County

SALT LAKE CITY (Oct. 1, 2018) – During a meeting with local and public safety officials in Elk Ridge today, Gov. Gary R. Herbert activated the Utah National Guard through Maj. Gen. Jeff Burton, Adjutant General of the Utah National Guard.

The governor issued the following statement:

"Members of the National Guard will lend crucial support by building flood berms, placing Jersey barriers, and strategically placing sandbags to guard communities from potential flash flooding. Following these devastating wildfires, there is increased danger of flooding. With heavy rains headed toward Utah, flash flooding is a risk for these communities. In this instance, I would much rather be safe than sorry, and we are putting strong protections in place."

Approximately 200 soldiers with the Utah National Guard's 204th Maneuver Enhancement Brigade and 300th Military Intelligence Brigade are reporting under State Active Duty.

Latest Album iConic Out Now

New York, NY - October 1, 2018 - New York pop rock act Pros & iCons has released a brand new acoustic video for "Catch Me," from the band's latest record iConic. Fans can check out the video now via New Noise Magazine: https://bit.ly/2zKy5gC. iConic was released on June 1, 2017. Stay up to date on the latest news from Pros & iCons at www.prosandiconsmusic.com.

On the new video, the band shared: "'Catch Me' is an ode to the dreamers of the world and, in a sense, a love letter to ourselves. We listen to the song as inspiration whenever we feel a tinge of defeat. The video captures a narrative of musical progression, expressing where we were, where we are, and where we are going. As we evolve visually and figuratively throughout the video, we're nearly saying, 'We're going to make it. You can catch us if you can.'"

Much like an anti-hero breaks rules in honor of heroism, Pros & iCons' "anti-pop" approach to their mainstream sound breaks expectations of the "now." Pros & iCons filters their interpretation of life and presents it through nostalgic, emotive, and inspirational arena rock anthems. The band evokes an energy and power known to 1980s rock 'n' roll that has greatly inspired their journey.

Pros & iCons released their debut full-length album iConic in 2017, and have since worked tirelessly to build up a devoted following. Earlier this year they took the stage at select dates of the final Vans Warped Tour, alongside bands like We Were Sharks, Sleep On It, Great American Ghost, As It Is, and more.

Pros & iCons is Joey Dean (vocals), Niko Vaude (guitar), Lenny J. (guitar), and Tylø (bass).
