UNITED UTAH CANDIDATES RAISE SIX FIGURES IN FIRST FEC DISCLOSURE
Jan Garbett raises $123,039, Eric Eliason has $104,490 on hand
SALT LAKE CITY, UT…. The first Federal Election Commission filing deadline has passed for federal candidates, and two congressional candidates from the United Utah Party have raised significant amounts of money for their campaigns.
Eric Eliason, the UUP congressional candidate in Utah’s First District, has raised $106,700 and only spent $2,210, leaving him with $104,490 cash on hand. Jan Garbett, the UUP congressional candidate in Utah’s Second District, raised $123,039 during the same period and has $56,425 cash on hand.
“It is rare to see third-party candidates raising six figures for their entire campaign, let alone this early in the process,” said Richard Davis, the United Utah Party Chair. “Our candidates in these races are truly competitive.”
While the incumbent Republicans in both districts have larger war chests than the UUP challengers, both Eliason and Garbett have raised significantly more money than all of their Democratic opponents combined. In the Second District, all three Democrats in the race have raised a combined total of $88,936, while the lone Democrat in the First District has raised $12,947 and spent $11,500, leaving him with only $1,447 cash on hand.
“This demonstrates that the United Utah Party is a formidable political force,” Davis said. “We’re well on our way to becoming one of the two major parties in Utah."
