DANIELS FUND ANNOUNCES $5 MILLION INVESTMENT IN

UNITED WAY OF SALT LAKE

Salt Lake City — Today, the Daniels Fund announced a $5 million investment in United Way of Salt Lake’s work to change the odds for kids and families in our community.

“The more we have learned about United Way of Salt Lake’s intentional Collective Impact work at community schools, we have been increasingly impressed with the meaningful work they are doing to truly change lives and communities,” said Kristin Todd, Senior Vice President, Daniels Fund. “We are thrilled to be part of this incredible effort and look forward to rolling up our sleeves and getting even further engaged,” continued Todd.

“This is a tremendous gift from the Daniels Fund that will have a major impact on the neighborhoods and schools where we work,” said Rebecca Dutson, Executive Vice President and Chief Development Officer, United Way of Salt Lake. “We are so humbled by their generosity and commitment to our community,” continued Dutson.

Specifically, the investment of $5 million ($1 million per year for five years) will help boost student outcomes by supporting academic programs and services at United Way community schools and provide funding to expand programs and develop additional community schools.

“We are honored to work side by side with the Daniels Fund to ensure kids reach critical academic benchmarks,” said Deborah Bayle, President and CEO, United Way of Salt Lake. “This investment will truly change the trajectory for hundreds, if not thousands of low-income, at-risk children,” continued Bayle.

A community school is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources. Its integrated focus on academics, health and social services, youth and community development, and community engagement leads to improved student learning, stronger families, and healthier communities.

United Way of Salt Lake's work is neighborhood-based and supports Promise Partnerships in six neighborhoods where students face many barriers to learning—high levels of poverty, lack of language skills, poor health access, and lack of education. These neighborhoods are home to 19 community schools that serve as hubs for entire families to easily access programs and services.
