We have several Eagle Scouts from the City this month. Congratulations to Justin Hulme, son of Dave and Josie Hulme. He did a great project to build a pagoda for the Outdoor Learning Center at Venture Academy. Congratulations to Logan LaFeber, and thanks for your wonderful project to improve Oaklawn Park.
Andy Bolingbrokean has an Eagle Project in the works. He is the son of Jeff and Emliee Bolingbrokean. For his project, he is raising $1,800.00 for two benches to be installed at the south end of Shady Lane Park by the playground. If you would like to help contact Andy at bolingbrokean@wsdtudent.net.
We have some great things coming to the City soon. One of them is walking paths on 2100 N and 1700 N in conjunction with Green Acres Elementary. A few months ago, the mayor met with Green Acres Elementary leaders and parents about sections of 1700 N and 2100 N that lack sidewalks. They were concerned about students who walk on these streets to school, and don't have a safe place to walk. With the full support of the City Council, a plan was made to share the cost of putting in asphalt trails in these areas. In the long-run, sidewalks will be eventually installed, but that is likely years away. The asphalt trails will be a perfect, low-cost solution in the meantime. The trails will also be a great safety improvement for joggers, bikers, etc.
Green Acres Elementary will be holding s fundraiser in September to help pay for their portion of the trail. Please support this community effort to improve safety on the roads!
Beatification Program continues with new utility box art! New public art installed on multiple utility boxes along Washington Blvd.! Rocky Mountain Power allowed our City to become the very first in Utah to wrap their utility boxes. Thanks to our Economic Development Committee for helping manage the program, and Jenice Macfarlane Jones at Jones Shirts & Signs for the beautiful designs and installation! This program has been a team effort!
As many of you know, Family Promise will soon be using the old Public Works building to house families in need. They need our help getting it ready. Please look over this flier and spread the word. Franks Auto is doing a donation drive to hopefully get them everything on their list. Any and all donations are appreciated. Search for the open event (Family Promise Donation Drive North Ogden).
A charity yard, bake and silent action is planned for September 2 from 9am to 8 pm at 193 east Pleasant View Drive. The benefit is for Education for the Center in Guatemala. For more information contact brien@eftusa.org.
Students of the month are Koby Pack from Weber High, Brynn Cazier from Orion Jr. High, Fiona Luu from North Ogden Jr. High and Hayden Ouderkirk from Maria Montessori Academy. Each student has shown themselves to be great examples to the other students. Congratulations!
The Youth Council needs to be congratulated on their service for the 4th of July. They we’re troopers even though it was hot they hung in there with busing of the table for the Kiwanis breakfast, to walking in the parade, they volunteered at the games at North Ogden Park, they served at the Grand Marshall Dinner. The next day they returned to Barker Park after the fireworks to clean up the remains of the fireworks and other items in and about the area of the park. Thanks a million!
Saving the tax money, we have been doing in house projects instead of hiring outside contractors saving the City money. For example, in the public works building there was space that was needing to be finished for office space that is in the process of being done. The start of remodeling of the City Hall and the new animal shelter, with a savings of $100,000 to the residents of North Ogden.
The Employee of the month is Dave Smith, he oversees the storm water works. He has been with the city over 20 years. Many of the things he oversees is the 53 detention basins and many other areas. Congratulations! Thanks for your service to the City.
The Park of the Month is Orton Park at 2050 North 575 East (same park known as Green Acres Park just north of the Green Acres Elementary. Most of the park is a giant retention basin. This is a busy area during the spring and fall with a lot of the soccer games being played there. This park hosts a walking track, new restrooms, playground and a wonderful bridge over the creek.
