Utah Senate Announces Visual Arts Scholarship Competition for 2019
SALT LAKE CITY — The 5th Annual Utah Senate Visual Arts Scholarship Competition for 9th – 12th grade students is now open. The 2019 theme is INSPIRED UTAH. The Competition is sponsored by Senate President Stuart Adams and the Utah State Senate.
Twenty – five scholarships will be awarded. Scholarship awards of $5,000, $3,000, $1,000, $500 and $300 will be deposited into accounts for the students at the Utah Educational Savings Plan. The winning entries will be featured on the third-floor corridor of the Capitol through the 2019 Utah Legislative Session. The 1st place work remains in the Utah Senate suite.
The students will receive their awards in the Senate Chamber during the 2019 Legislative Session and Arts Day on the Hill, Thursday, February 21st. The work will be exhibited outside the Senate Chamber on the third floor of the Capitol Rotunda.
This competition is facilitated by the Arts Education Program of the Utah Division of Arts and Museums. The deadline for student submissions is Friday, January 11th, 2019.

November 20, 2018 - Inland Empire, CA - Assuming We Survive have dropped the intense music video for "Make It Out Alive" today, premiering exclusively with Billboard. The video combines performance shots with an intense "Fight Club-style" storyline that echoes the cycle of abuse Lead Singer Adrian Estrella experienced as a child. "I wanted to show in the video the struggle of battling through your problems but holding the things that mean the most to you very dear, protecting those things with everything you have." shares Estrella in an exclusive interview with Billboard.com. The track originally premiered with Substream Magazine, who called the track "high-energy catchy rock." It, along with other stand out singles like "Just So You Know" and "California Stoned," help make up the band's latest EP, Chapters, which was released earlier this Fall via Third String Records. November 20, 2018 - New Jersey - South Jersey-based singer/songwriter TONKS is sharing an intimate new Living Room Session video for "St. Charles Place," off his recently released debut album, Windows Down & Dying. Fans can watch it now on Alternative Press.
On the new video, he shares: "I wrote the main riff to St. Charles Place in an airbnb in Idaho, but i wrote the lyrics while sitting on the couch you see in this video. That couch is where a majority of the record was written."
The solo acoustic project of Dryjacket bassist Ian Foley, TONKS offers an introspective collection of songs set to brightly shimmering melodies - amidst a quiet and unassuming melancholy. Windows Down & Dying was released last Friday, November 16th to acclaim from Billboard, Atwood Magazine, Substream Magazine, and more. It is now streaming via Apple Music and Spotify.
Foley, a multi-instrumentalist who recorded the violin, piano, and vibe as well as the guitar and vocals on his debut record, celebrated the album with a series of local album release shows.
