Embrace a new culture of work

96 percent of employees say they need flexibility at work. That trend doesn't have any signs of slowing down, either. By 2025, millennials will constitute 75 percent of the global workforce – and these digital natives have modern expectations about what work should look like. That means employers must trust their ability to work as a team even when they're separated geographically.

In this episode of Modern Workplace, we talk to Annie Dean, co-CEO of Werk, about different ways you can offer employees flexibility in their workday, including:

  • Opportunities to work remote for a few days of the week
  • MicroAgility, or the ability to take one or two hours of the day for errands or appointments
  • Reducing the amount of time that workers need to be on the road, if possible

Utah Nonprofits Association Supports The Haven in Expansion of Capacity Needed To Keep Pace with Rising Numbers of Addiction

The Utah Nonprofits Association (UNA) awarded its first ever Nonprofit Organizational Credential Award to The Haven on March 20, 2019. The Haven is a 501(C)(3) nonprofit providing rehabilitation in a residential setting  to people suffering from the disease of addiction. UNA's Nonprofit Organizational Credential Program equips nonprofits with the skills, knowledge, and expert support they need to implement best practices in nine areas essential to nonprofits. These areas include Board Governance, Leadership and Organizational Culture, Fundraising and Development, Human Resources, Finance and Legal, Advocacy and Civic Engagement, Communication and Marketing, Outcomes and Evaluations, and Volunteer Management. Successful completion of any one course earns that organization a UNA Badge. Attaining any one Badge requires an organization to submit anywhere from five to 20 documents to confirm their adoption of best practices. Completion of all nine Badges earns an organization the Nonprofit Organizational Credential – and more importantly, puts them on a path for sustainability.

Heather Chase, Executive Director of The Haven, says, "UNA's Nonprofit Organizational Credential program guided our organization in a reevaluation of our mission. It provided us with everything we needed to update our bylaws, engage our board, and create our strategic plan. Implementing these new policies and processes was a significant multi-year effort, but we saw it as essential to help us expand our capacity to treat the rising number of people battling addiction."

There are over 10,000 nonprofit organizations in Utah. Since the 2015 inception of the Nonprofit Organizational Credential, 258 organizations have participated in the program. The Haven is the only organization to satisfy the requirements for all nine badges and earn the Nonprofit Organizational Credential.

The Utah Nonprofits Association is a membership organization dedicated to building strong communities by strengthening and advocating for Utah's nonprofit community.
