Dear editor,

Senator Romney showed true leadership by recently advocating for carbon reductions and investment in clean energy innovation. These common-sense policies are good for our planet and the economy.

Advancing clean energy innovation and independence while creating a healthier planet should not be a partisan issue. It was encouraging to see Republicans form the new Roosevelt Conservation Caucus and take pride in being responsible stewards of the environment. Senator Romney is building upon the conservation legacies of giants like Ronald Reagan and Theodore Roosevelt. He is making it clear that conservation is a conservative value.

A perfect opportunity for Republicans to reclaim the conservation mantle is to champion pro-business policies like the investment tax credit. It has been phenomenally successful at leveraging private investment in clean energy technologies like solar and has helped create hundreds of thousands of jobs. Solar jobs here in Utah alone have doubled in the past three years.

However, the solar investment tax credit is at risk if Congress does not act. Senator Romney should lead on this issue and support the Renewable Energy Extension Act, which would defend the investment tax credit, fuel innovation, and help create jobs right here in Utah.

Sincerely,
