BEMIS FAMILY LAUNCH KICKSTARTER CAMPAIGN
SAY ANTHING'S MAX BEMIS AND EISLEY'S SHERRI
DUPREE-BEMIS AIM TO RELEASE TWO NEW SOLO
EPS, A PERMA EP, AND EP FROM THEIR DAUGHTERS,
LUCY AND CORALINE, ALL FOR FREE
WILL LIVESTREAM NEW SONGS TOMORROW VIA
THE KICKSTARTER PAGE FROM 8-9PM CST
Say Anything front man Max Bemis and his wife Sherri DuPree Bemis (of indie-rock outlet Eisley) have recently announced their Kickstarter to raise money for four new musical projects: a new album titled Fight Fair from Perma (a collaboration between Max and Sherri), a solo album from Max, a solo album from Sherri, and a release from their daughters, Lucy and Coraline, under the moniker Flower Petal Flower Rose. The money raised will start the recording, mixing, multimedia creation and free streaming of four next-generation "Bemis-related" releases at once.
Tomorrow, Tuesday, September 25, Max and Sherri will host a livestream on their Kickstarter page, where they will talk more about the upcoming projects, perform an acoustic set and premiere an acoustic-version of a new Perma song. The livestream will take place from 8 to 9 PM CST. For more information, fans can check out the Facebook event: https://bit.ly/2DA3Qx4
A demo titled "Fucking With Your Head" was shared via Max's twitter this week and will be featured on his solo EP. Fans can listen and get a vibe for what new music will sound like here: https://bit.ly/2QFW0Ek.
Max announced in August, through a statement on the band's website, that Say Anything's forthcoming album Oliver Appropriate would be their final LP for the time being. In the nine-page and extremely honest and open letter to fans, he addressed his decision to no longer tour for the time being and the mental breakdown he had experienced this year, which he was able to pull himself out of due to the support of his wife and children.
"I obviously wasn't the one who had to experience the mental breakdown personally...but it was excruciating to watch Max go through that," Sherri says. "I felt so helpless at times and that's a horrible feeling when you feel like you can't help the person you love most on earth. But it really did bring us closer together. Despite some of the darkest nights together we pulled through by clinging to one another and not giving up on our love and our family."
Unlike the traditional music industry realm they've followed with Say Anything and Eisley, Max and Sherri are choosing to approach their upcoming projects in a true DIY fashion by crowdfunding.
"In this case, it's all about how we want to do things," Max said. "If we have a crazy idea about how we want to proceed we don't have to filter it through a bunch of peoples' opinions, and since this is a really individuated project, we have the ability to do anything we want at the push of a button as well as the knowledge of what we're capable of doing. It lets us imagine a bit bigger right now."
The family is transparent when it comes to the crowdfunding of the project and have always been known for their sincerity in communication with fans. Max explains, "I'd not be able to do this without their support and, since I'm going into writing pretty much full time, I know I wouldn't have gotten into writing so quickly if it weren't for the fan-base that followed me from music to writing being the first people to give my writing a chance."
The goal for the Kickstarter is to raise $85,000 to help fund mixing, mastering, physical production, and more for each release. Additionally, funds will go towards helping them improve their recording space. Various prizes for pledges include a "Sherri Lullaby Subscription", a "Bemis Girls Sticker Sheet", Personalized iPhone Greeting, and more. The top pledge of $10,000 includes a Max Bemis D.I.Y. show featuring Sherri. The campaign has already raised over $66,000 with over 1,000 backers pledging.
