Dear KidsOutAndAbout.com readers:
It's time for another thrilling edition of FUN WITH NUMBERS by Deb, wherein I tell you about YOU!
Many thousands of you answered our annual survey early this summer that helped us publish our annual ranking of the Top 20 Places to Take Kids in the Salt Lake City Area. We host this survey at all of our KidsOutAndAbout regional sites in North America, and in addition to asking you to rank your favorite local places, we also ask one common question. This year, our question was: When you want to get "out and about," what holds you back? What are your obstacles?
Here were Rochester's results:
Limited budget
65.6%
Driving Distance
42.3%
Schedule is too packed with other activities
21.0%
Need to satisfy multiple ages/interests of people in group
15.0%
Parking is difficult / limited
13.8%
Nap time interferes
13.0%
Parking is costly
11.9%
Weather concerns
10.3%
Kids or adults have special needs
4.0%
While most regions listed "budget" as their #1 concern, I was fascinated by how so many respondents find that their families are so over-scheduled that it's tough to fit in family time for fun. The header graphic above shows where this region ranks relative to other communities on that dimension... just look for the RED column. It almost made me reconsider how much we promote KidsOutAndAbout's comprehensive subject-by-subject lists of after-school enrichment activities for fear of contributing to this trend. So, even though that list is super-handy, I positively encourage you to ignore it completely if you're one of the 21% of local families in desperate need of some breathing space. Here's to removing what's in your way!

The 7th Annual Fairytale Festival at Centerpoint Legacy Theatre
“If you want your child to be intelligent, read them fairytales; if you want them to be more intelligent, read them more fairytales.” - Albert Einstein
Every September, this wise adage comes full circle with the transformation of our theater into an enchanted castle to celebrate the wonder of fairytales.
Children and children-at-heart have the opportunity to meet their favorite fairytale characters from roguish pirates to adventurous princesses. They engage in face painting, glass slipper fittings, princess make-overs & rides on the story train. Fairy-house and wand making, among other fanciful crafts are available. Admission is free, as are many of the activities!
Some of the popular ticketed activities include: Princess Tea Party, Daddy-Daughter Ever-After Royal Ball, and Wizarding 101. These activities require pre-registration and fill up quickly. Reservations can be made by calling the Box Office at 801-298-1302. We invite you to come and join the magic!
