Fake news is a sad byproduct of the internet age. With the removal of broadcasting barriers and the democratization of information come fake news trolls who create and spread inaccurate content throughout the web.

In the education space, this "Chronic Misinformation Disorder" is a problem for students seeking accurate information for their schoolwork. Rather than spending their precious time completing their schoolwork and understanding complex subjects, they are forced to determine the accuracy of the information they are receiving and evaluate the credibility of the source. Lest they be duped.

Brainly— the world's largest peer-to-peer learning community — has made it their mission to take fake news head on. The folks at this innovative EdTech company know everyone makes mistakes, and for this reason they have implemented a three-tiered moderation process meant to minimize and mitigate the proliferation of misinformation and fake news for its more than 150 million active monthly users.

TIER 1: AI TO THE RESCUE
Brainly utilizes a comprehensive artificial intelligence filtering algorithm designed to block inappropriate or irrelevant answers, questions, or comments to ensure the information is as accurate as possible.

TIER 2: THE HUMAN TOUCH
Each piece of information on the site is subject to a ranking system moderated by the very users of the site. Users can rank content, flag inappropriate content, and be awarded points to incentivize accuracy.

TIER 3: BRING IN THE EXPERTS
Finally, every piece of content can be reviewed by thousands of site moderators who are generally subject matter experts, current and former educators, or high-performing students.

Combating Chronic Misinformation Disorder is one of the important functions of the Brainly platform. Through this three-tiered process, they can ensure that they are not only providing students with the access to information they require, but promising that the information is as accurate as it can be.

2500 Jobs Coming to Utah’s 1st Congressional District
Bishop Speaks at Groundbreaking

ROY, UT – Rep. Rob Bishop, a senior member of the House Armed Services Committee, offered congratulatory remarks at a groundbreaking ceremony in Roy, UT following an announcement by Northrop Grumman of the construction of a brand new facility. The facility will serve as the headquarters for the company’s Ground Based Strategic Deterrent (GBSD) program and create 2500 new jobs in northern Utah.

BISHOP SAID: “Utah has a long history of contributing to our nation’s defense. Those contributions are thanks in no small part to the partners involved in advancing the tactics and technologies of the United States military. Utah has played a key role in supporting ICBM programs dating back to the 1950s.

“The groundbreaking of this Northrop Grumman facility marks the start of a brand-new chapter in Utah’s support of the nuclear triad.  As threatening technologies advance in nations around the world, particularly amongst our would-be adversaries, it is crucial that these programs advance here at home. There is no better place than in Utah for the hard work to be done.”

ORIGINAL THINKERS ANNOUNCES “UNEARTHING CULTURE,” AN EXTRAORDINARY CULTURAL EXPERIENCE OF VISUAL ARTS AND MUSIC, FOR SHOW #7 AT DEEP CREEK MINE; OPEN TO ATTENDEES AND PUBLIC BEGINNING OCTOBER 4

Renowned arts collective Chromasonic, Rhea Combs, curator of film for the Smithsonian African-American Museum, Chris Taylor from Grizzly Bear, and singer-songwriter Bhi Bhiman Share Their Stories in Creating Their Own Bodies of Work

August 28, 2019, TELLURIDE, CO - The Original Thinkers Festival announced today its seventh show, “Unearthing Culture,” which will illustrate the importance of creating independent culture through an otherworldly sensory experience of light, sound, and performance at the Deep Creek mine, followed by a rich discussion amongst artists and musicians. The old limestone mine has become an industrial and performance space for artists and creators of all kinds. Starting on Friday, October 4th, the Original Thinkers audience will participate in a singular cultural experience of performance art, music, and thoughtful dialogue.

Open to all festival attendees and local residents, Original Thinkers’ participants will experience Chromasonic’s highly immersive artwork -- a physical and perpetual “layering” in its manipulation of light and sound. Chromasonic’s meditative, multi-sensory light and sound installation, titled Chromasonic - Fluid State uses the mine’s absence of light to put participants in a continuous flow of perceptual activation and adjustment by rendering them in an altered state using “Chromasonic-Refrequencing”. This powerful experience will carry participants on their journey into the perceptions of art, culture and independent thought through an exchange between Rhea Combs, curator of film for the Smithsonian African-American Museum, Chris Taylor from the rock/electronic group Grizzly Bear, and singer-songwriter Bhi Bhiman. They will address the many challenges and successes that they have faced in their own uncharted and unorthodox work.

The artists include Chromasonic’s renowned visual artist Johannes Girardoni, whose art explores perception through material and light, and sound artists Orpheo McCord (of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros) and Joel Shearer. Finally, artist and community organizer at the New Orleans Museum of Art, Nic Aziz will be “performing” his artwork as well. Aziz is known for reinterpreting the famous Rodin sculpture, The Thinker, on top of confederate statues as a contemporary African-American black male.

“Even though it's only our second year of Original Thinkers we wanted to try something fully unprecedented by collaborating with Deep Creek Experimental,” said David Holbrooke, Original Thinkers founder. “Context is so important for all art and we think what will happen at the mine over Original Thinkers weekend, will be a rich and resonant experience for our audience.”

During Original Thinkers, this unprecedented exhibition will be open to festival guests Friday, October 4 through Sunday, October 6. On Saturday, October 5, Deep Creek Mine will open at 4pm for people to tour the exhibit before the 6pm show, Unearthing Culture. Immediately following the program at 8pm, this event will be open to the general public who can buy a special ticket for $95 to see the powerful artists, musicians and enjoy a BBQ featuring Impossible Burgers and which includes an Impossible Burger BBQ, Music and Art.

Unearthing Culture is a collaboration between Original Thinkers and Deep Creek Experimental Deep Creek Experimental is the vision of Anton Viditz-Ward, the wizard behind the mine, who has been building epic fire exhibits at Burning Man for more than a decade. This collaboration is the next phase in Viditz-Ward’s plan for the mine. An array of artists will exhibit work that is designed to be seen in this remarkable setting over several days including a special Original Thinkers show on Saturday evening.

ORIGINAL THINKERS is a highly curated multi-modal and experiential event that brings diverse and democratic perspectives to the big ideas spotlighted leading the audience to engage and interact with others in surprisingly wonderful and unexpected ways. It’s a transformative experience for all involved.
