THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN HEMP AND MARIJUANA
Hemp is completely different from marijuana in its function, cultivation and application. In cultivating marijuana, the plants are spaced far apart, and the male plants are destroyed to assure that they cannot seed the female plants, which would result in undesirable, less potent and less marketable, seeded marijuana buds. Hemp, on the other hand, is planted close together and commonly hermaphrodites, which creates an abundance of seeds, the main component of Hemp foods and supplements. The Hemp stalks are processed and used for fiber, composite, and other hemp based end products.
Hemp is used in variety of other applications that marijuana couldn’t possibly be used in. These include healthy dietary supplements, skin products, clothing, and accessories. Overall, hemp is known to have over 25,000 possible applications. Hemp products such as Hemp Milk, Hemp Cereal, and Hemp Oil are used by consumers every day.

HOW HEMP CAN CHANGE THE WORLD
Fiber – Hemp fiber can be used to make fabrics and textiles, rope and paper. The word ‘canvas’ actually derives from the word cannabis.
Fuel – While the industrial, medicinal and commercial properties of hemp have been known to mankind for a very long time, its benefits to the environment have just been realized in recent years. One of the compelling things hemp offers is fuel. With reserves of petroleum being depleted, it would be nice if we could have a fuel source which was reusable and which we could grow right here, making us completely energy independent.
Food – Hemp seeds are very nutritious and were first thought to be eaten by the Ancient Chinese and Indians. Hemp seeds have a nutty taste and can be eaten raw, ground up, sprouted, or made into dried sprout powder. Hemp seeds also contain a very beneficial oil that is high in unsaturated fatty acids, including an optimal 1:4 ratio of omega-3 to 6.
Building Material – Hemp can be made into a variety of building materials. These include concrete-like blocks called ‘hempcrete’, biodegradable plastics, and wood replacements. These materials have been used in the manufacture of many things, including electronics, cars and houses. In fact, the first American home made of hemp-based materials was completed in August 2010 in Asheville, North Carolina.
Biofuel – Remarkably, the oil from hemp seeds and stalks can also be made into biofuels such as Biodiesel — sometimes known as ‘hempoline’. While this biofuel can be used to power engines, it does take quite a lot of raw material to produce a substantial amount.

Am I the only one who finds it maddening, not only to consider the indisputable reality that the cult of Trump is dragging us over the cliff into dictatorship, but how they’re doing it?
In the charade of a legal defense for Trump at his impeachment trial, his team has tried everything from outright lies to distortions to asking senators to empathize with what the poor defendant must be going through. Frantic backroom pressure is being applied to GOP senators wavering on how they’ll vote on calling witnesses. The White House has sent a letter to John Bolton, warning him to refrain from publishing his memoir, in which he reportedly states the president told him of a damning quid pro quo regarding aid to Ukraine and other acts that would bolster the House’s charges that Trump abused executive power.
Republicans have twisted themselves into bizarre sailors’ knots of tortured logic to argue that Trump was motivated by trying to fight Ukrainian corruption, that the real issue is actually ( the thoroughly discredited conspiracy theory of) Ukraine’s interference in the 2016 election, or Democrats’ longstanding conspiracy to remove Trump through impeachment after failing to beat him at the ballot box, that even if he did what he’s accused of (the “so what defense”), it doesn’t rise to the level of impeachability, that the House managers and speaker are corrupt, evil, witch-hunting, hyperpartisan, fraudulent, unpatriotic traitors.
As Harvard professor emeritus of constitutional law Lawrence Tribe has stated, the latest argument of Trump defender Alan Dershowitz that Trump’s acts are not impeachable is an indefensible stance with virtually no support from respected legal scholars. Its logical conclusion that Trump should be acquitted because he did not violate criminal statutes is absurd from any but a cult-driven perspective. On Wednesday, Dershowitz proclaimed an even more dizzying leap of logic: If Trump wanted help from Ukraine because his re-election quest is in the national interest, then any such act is not impeachable. The ramifications of such thinking are nightmarish for democracy, but Republicans seem to be going along with the argument. And if that approach doesn’t gain traction, I would submit to you that Trump’s defenders would find a way to declare him innocent no matter what transgression he committed because to the right there is no such thing as an impeachable offense (unless it’s a Democrat). Bribery? Well, that’s within the scope of his authority over conducting foreign policy. Extortion? Show us the evidence, even though we won’t let you have the documents and witnesses that might prove it. Murder with a handgun on Fifth Avenue? Video manipulation by the Deep State conspiracy, or maybe Trump’s shot missed but Democrats secretly fired the fatal bullet from a grassy knoll.
There’s an old chestnut that when the answer is no, the questions are irrelevant. The bottom line is that there are two avenues of support for Trump that have grown and proliferated from a variety of circumstances but seem to have conflated into an unstoppable juggernaut. The Republican base of voters, driven by fear, frustrated by a loss of hope, disappointed by fragmented, single-issue Democrats, brainwashed by right-wing media, hardened by decades of culture wars, simply don’t care. Trump has persuaded them he is their champion, despite policies and behavior directly to the contrary, and they have cast their lot with him, for better or worse. Regrettably, this includes most evangelical Christians, who have turned a blind eye to Trump’s vulgarity, immorality and blatantly un-Christian behavior. Their conclusion? He was chosen by God, and so be it.
Trump’s other lifeline has been the GOP—including its donors and elected leaders. Any Republican running for re-election or contemplating a future in the party has become terrified of Trump’s scorched-earth vindictiveness in attacking his critics, let alone his declared enemies. Privately, they concede their unhappiness with his behavior, but they fear both his revenge and the retaliation of his voting base.
Okay, we know all this, and we have for some time, though we keep hoping that just a few will grow enough of a backbone to say enough is enough. But evil has no depths, and the addiction to power seems to have no limits.
Still, is it absolutely necessary to insult our intelligence with these patently absurd arguments and defenses? Whatever happened to good old Machiavellianism? Wouldn’t you at least like to hear someone on the right with the courage to tell it like it is? Something like the following?
Yes, there is no doubt Trump abused power in advancing his own interests by blocking aid to Ukraine over which he had no proper authority. Yes, he used a quid pro quo to dangle a meeting with Zelensky on condition the Ukrainians announce an investigation of his political rival. Yes, he endangered American security interests, compromised the security of our Ukraine ally, improperly maligned and removed a highly respected U.S. diplomat. And yes, he obstructed and impeded a constitutionally sanctioned congressional investigation by withholding key documents and ordering witnesses not to testify. Oh, and of course he welcomed Russian help in the 2016 election, badmouthed and fired DOJ officials and staffers, intimidated witnesses, demeaned the office of the presidency, ruined our international reputation as a world leader, encouraged racists, instigated violence, established and enforced inhumane policies toward immigrants, including innocent children and their families, mocked the handicapped, disparaged and discriminated against minorities, gutted federal agencies, reversed decades of progress on environmental regulation, encouraged and abetted fossil-fuel industry growth, slandered and libeled his enemies, vilified the media and endangered journalists’ lives, and so forth. Sorry if I forgot anything.
But we his defenders and enablers stand before you to acknowledge all this and declare it has all been absolutely necessary to protect white Americans from the forces of socialism, mass immigration and the inevitable rise of minority rule under our current system of representative democracy. We have had no choice to protect your privilege, your stuff and your future—and of course our own jobs, riches and power. Democracy and liberty are words we use to spread capitalism and lure American youth into service as cannon fodder in foreign wars. We exploit the Bill of Rights to defend freedom of speech for corporations and the right to bear arms, both to enrich the weapons industry and extend the illusion of power under a false interpretation of the Second Amendment.
Okay, we admit it. We are liars, thieves and hypocrites. We have no ideology, save that the end justifies the means. We do it all for you, so you can keep your stuff and not feel threatened by dark-skinned, foreign hordes who want to suck you dry and rape your women. Remember, we’ve got the weapons and we’ve got the reins of government—the Senate, the White House, the Supreme Court and the military.

This is National School Choice Week, a time when you may read about families choosing one school over another. To policymakers and education professionals, the choice can appear binary. Public schools or private ones. Full-time online schools or full-time brick-and-mortar schools. But I’m not so sure parents and families think like that. How do they think about their choices, and what do families want for their children?
Here is some new evidence and a fresh reason to support policies that create a plurality of options and opportunities for families.
In August 2019, the Grieb family of Oklahoma sued their online charter school for involuntarily disenrolling their children. Why were they disenrolled? This family had simultaneously enrolled their children in public and private schools. (You can follow the case here.)
Did you catch that? This bears repeating. Each of these students was attending two schools at the same time—one private and one public.
A quick note about charter schools: believe it or not, charter schools are public schools. They are required to follow state laws and to comply with rules set by their oversight body, usually called an “authorizer.” Charter schools only exist when they have a contract with an authorizer.
In this case, the contract that allows this particular online charter school to exist explicitly prohibits dual enrollment between public and private schools. So, in an effort to comply with state agency rules, the online charter kicked the students out.
However, the Griebs have an interesting argument. They claim that the Oklahoma Constitution guarantees a public education to every child regardless of which private education programs they solicit.
“The Legislature shall establish and maintain a system of free public schools wherein all the children of the State may be educated.” - Article XIII § 1, Oklahoma Constitution
All children may be educated. Not some. Not most. Not 90%. All of them. And disallowing private school children access to public schools could be unconstitutional.
In other words, this family is essentially arguing that students who attend private schools and homeschools have a right to access public education regardless of their enrollment status in other schools. Families should not have to choose between private schools and public schools, and public education is a public benefit intended for every student.
No matter what happens with the case, the argument presented here provides a fresh perspective on school choice conversations.
The policy implications are particularly interesting for people who care about access, equity and equal opportunity since it may provide a new argument for states to support policies that create a more pluralistic form of public education. The argument could go something like this ...

Traditional classrooms foster a “same-size-fits-all philosophy” that does not support the unique ways different students learn. In a new interview with C.M. Rubin, Founder of CMRubinWorld, Lene Jensby Lange, the founder of Autens based in Denmark, discusses the Learning Space Design Lab, a model that shows how teachers and students can work collaboratively, playfully, and productively. “We aim to create inspired design briefs for future-oriented schools... developed and supported by the whole organization – and we aim to simultaneously kick-start the professional development required to work in those spaces.” After participating in the Learning Space Design Labs, teachers no longer want to teach in a traditional classroom. “It’s been a powerful lever for joint decisions of change,” says Jensby Lange.
According to Jensby Lange, school buildings have been developed traditionally by building committees with only a handful of teachers present and architects making most of the decisions. She believes that building and interior designs are all about creating a collaborative, modern learning culture. “It’s crucial to involve the entire teaching staff when we make decisions around something as significant as the buildings and interiors that help shape what we are able to do in those buildings.”

Legislation Proposes to Provide Women the Choice of Disposal of Fetal Remains
SALT LAKE CITY – Women and parents should have the right to choose the final disposition of fetal remains if they desire. Nothing is required of parents if they wish for the healthcare facility to handle the final disposal. S.B. 67 Disposition of Fetal Remains, sponsored by Sen. Curt Bramble, merely puts the choice in the hands of the woman in the case of a miscarriage or aborted fetus and requires the hospital or clinic to handle those remains in a respectful and dignified manner.
S.B. 67 does not require women to bury their aborted or lost children. It simply gives women the right to choose how her baby is disposed of after a miscarry or abortion. Women who miscarry often deal with grief and regret when not given the opportunity to decide how the remains of their baby are disposed of. Women in post-abortive counseling and support groups often express compounded trauma at the thought of what happened to their baby's body.
Unborn children are worthy of protection and worthy of respect that a proper burial provides if the woman wishes to. Providing women with the choice to treat the remains with dignity can help the grieving process. The only option grieving parents have is to have pictures taken with their child before the baby is thrown away with other medical waste.
Additionally, Utah law currently does not allow for a woman who miscarries in Utah to transport the deceased fetal remains out of state for burial or cremation. S.B. 67 provides women the option of an out of state transportation of the fetal remains should a woman who has miscarried while in Utah desires to bury her child in another state. Giving the grieving women and parents the right to choose how their baby is disposed of, if they so desire, provides additional closure and comfort.
Today, the Senate Health and Human Services Standing Committee passed S.B. 67.

Sen. Lee Statement on Not Needing More Witnesses
WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued the following statement Friday after voting not to hear from witnesses at President Trump’s impeachment trial:
“We have heard from 13 witnesses via video during this trial. We have heard hours of argument. We have received hundreds of pages of legal briefs and thousands of pages of supporting documents. We know what happened: President Trump directed his staff to ask President Zelensky to issue a statement announcing an investigation into ‘Burisma and the 2016 elections.’ President Zelensky declined. Gov. Herbert appoints Dustin Jansen to serve as the director of the Utah Division of Indian Affairs
SALT LAKE CITY (Jan. 31, 2020) – Dustin Jansen, an attorney with expertise in American Indian law, has been appointed as the new director for the Utah Division of Indian Affairs. His service in this role will officially begin on Feb. 8, 2020.
“Dustin Jansen’s background, expertise, and dedication have prepared him to serve with great effectiveness in this new capacity,” said Gov. Herbert. “I look forward to working with him.”
Since 2015, Jansen has been an assistant professor at Utah Valley University teaching American Indian Studies and Political Science, with a focus on Federal Indian Law and Policy and Tribal Government. He has also operated his own private practice. Jansen became involved with American Indian law in 2005 when he was hired as a Tribal Court Judge for the Confederated Tribes of the Goshute Reservation. He also worked for the Navajo Nation Legislative Counsel and for the Navajo Nation Department of Justice—Water Rights Unit.
“I am grateful and humbled to have been asked to serve in this position,” Jansen said. “It is my hope that I can open up effective communication and consultation between the indigenous Nations of Utah and the state.”
Jansen’s appointment follows the retirement of former director Shirlee Silversmith in October.
