Is Snoring Killing Your Love Life?
See Your Dentist
If you have been banished to the guest room because when you snore your neighbors think there is a 747 landing in the cul de sac, you might want to see the dentist.
The sleep disorder most associated with loud snoring is called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Studies have found thatit is associated with an increased risk of stroke, cancer and death.
But why go to the dentist? Because dental care impacts the entire body, says dentist Dr. Steven Freeman, author of the book Why Your Teeth Might Be Killing You (www.elitesmilesdentistry.com)
“People have a tendency to think that the dentist is only about filling cavities and creating a beautiful smile,” Dr. Freeman says. “But your oral health can impact your physical well being of your entire body. Sleeping disorders are frequently diagnosed and treated by dentists.”’
OSA wasn’t diagnosed as a condition until the 1960’s. Every year the number of sleep apnea cases increases due to increased awareness and the condition’s connection to obesity. Since populations are getting more obese, more people suffer from sleep apnea.
For years, people who had sleep apnea had only one choice – the “CPAP” which stands for “continuous positive airway pressure.” It looks like something a jet pilot would use at high altitude, and only 20% of people who are prescribed for it actually use it because it is so uncomfortable. However, there are other devices that are now available, including something called an “oral appliance therapy” that is more like a mouthpiece than a gas mask. It is recommended by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, an organization that includes dentists.
Dr. Stevens says causes of sleep apnea include:
“The need for a full night’s sleep cannot be overstated,” Dr. Stevens said. “Curing or remediating OSA can save someone from years of battling many health issues.”

Humane Society of Utah and Petco Foundation Celebrate All-Star Local Volunteer
WHAT: This Saturday, the Humane Society of Utah (HSU) and the Petco Foundation are inviting the community to celebrate the volunteer work of Kesli Jensen. As part of the Petco Foundation’s Be A Foster event, Jensen was nominated by HSU as an All-Star Foster and was selected as one of 50 foster volunteers in the nation to receive a $150 Petco shopping spree.
WHEN: Saturday, June 30, 2:30 p.m.
WHO: Photo and interview opportunity with All-Star foster, Kesli Jensen and HSU development director, Jamie Usry.
WHERE: Petco Animal Supplies
,
1165 Wilmington Ave, Salt Lake City, UT 84106
WHY: Kesli Jensen has fostered more than 350 animals for the Humane Society of Utah since 2012. Jensen will be celebrated with a $150 shopping spree at Petco courtesy of the Petco Foundation during the Be A Foster event. Jensen and her husband specialize in fostering puppies.
“We have taken in skin conditions, pneumonia cases, but our favorite fosters are big litters of large breed puppies,” said Jensen. We are passionate about fostering but it is the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done. Mama dogs are terrified in the shelter but when you take them home they settle in and develop a quick attachment to you. When it's time for adoption, I worry about the puppies and finding good homes for them, but when you see the adopter's excitement and love for the puppy, it makes it easy to let them go to their new homes. Fostering saves lives… dogs and people. As fosters we think we are saving dogs, but these dogs do more for us and for the families who adopt them, than we will ever do for them.”
“Foster volunteers are lifesaving heroes,” said Petco Foundation president, Susanne Kogut. “They work tirelessly to care for the most vulnerable animals and we are proud to be able to celebrate their work.”

New Album and Tour
To Come Later This Year
Virginia Beach, VA - June 28, 2018 - American rock band, MAE, has re-signed to Tooth & Nail Records. They will be releasing their highly anticipated record, produced by lead vocalist Dave Elkins, this fall on the label. The band released their first two records, Destination: Beautiful and The Everglow as well as previous EPs on Tooth & Nail, and is very excited to return to their roots.
Regarding the re-signing, the band states, "Tooth & Nail has always supported and encouraged us to manifest our best work. We needed to be with a team that felt like family as we envisioned and embarked on our most ambitious efforts to date."
Additionally, last week, MAE released the first single off of the forthcoming record, "5 Light Years," which is available to listen to HERE.
"The most compelling stories invite you into a transformation and reveal a new perspective. In this record we go on a journey from separation to connection. '5 Light Years' takes people into the heart of that story and welcomes them to a new beginning," MAE shares on the new track.
(m)ultisensory (a)esthetic (e)xperience, more commonly known as MAE, is an ever-evolving music and art project formed in 2001. The band has done it all - from signing with established labels to self-releasing music. In 2009, the band even released a set of EPs on their own label entitled Cell Records, in which all proceeds benefited Habitat for Humanity and DonorsChoose.org.
With a critically acclaimed career spanning over 1600 concerts on 4 continents and 8 studio record selling in excess of 500,000, MAE consistently weaves together expansive cinematic soundscapes for the emerging global culture. Born out of funded academic research on the relationship between color and sound, MAE uses its music as a starting point to extend the concept of harmony to include other sensory languages and place listeners inside of an experience of art for the whole body.
MAE have shared the stage with iconic bands such as Weezer and The Foo Fighters, toured worldwide, and have performed everywhere from the Vans Warped Tour to the United Nations. MAE also made history when they placed 700 people inside of a group virtual reality experience while they closed out the Forbes Under 30 Summit in Jerusalem's Tower of David.
MAE's previous album Singularity came in at #40 on the Billboard Top 200 Chart, #12 on the Billboard US Rock Chart, #13 on the Billboard US Alternative Chart, and #40 on the Billboard US Digital Chart.
MAE will be hitting the road for a two-week tour this fall in support of the upcoming record, kicking off in Nashville and closing in their home state of Virginia. The band will also be adding in special VIP Mae Day events that will include "a fully immersive experience to engage your whole body and mind into a work of art. It's a chance for us to build community through the experience and narrative of this album. You are coming to share a meal with the band, acoustic performance, VR one-on-one experience and more for every single person that attends."
