As you know, today California passed a broad digital privacy law considered "one of the most significant regulations overseeing the data-collection practices of technology companies in the United States."
Robert Cattanach, a partner at the international law firm Dorsey & Whitney is one of foremost experts in the country on data privacy and cybersecurity. He has previously worked as a trial attorney for the United States Department of Justice and was also special counsel to the Secretary of the Navy. Today he practices in the areas of regulatory litigation, including cybersecurity and data breaches, privacy and telecommunications, civil and criminal enforcement proceedings and international Regulatory Compliance. He has been following this closely as he has been receiving calls from US businesses who are trying to understand the affect this law may have.
Regarding this Mr. Cattanach says:
"California’s law will raise the bar significantly, and this won’t be the last time its raised as states seek to emulate the EU’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). This measure is likely to increase litigation as more consumer rights are created and expanded. That said, it is a compromise. Had the initiative passed, it had the potential to create even more significant problems for businesses and tech companies."
"Congress will feel pressure from both pro-privacy advocates to endorse the rights created by California, and businesses to try to bring uniformity to what is increasingly a dynamically evolving policy area," adds Cattanach. "The bottom line is that this leverages on the concepts contained in GDPR and is certain to be picked up as the standard by other states."
Please feel free to use any or all of Cattanach’s comments above in your stories. Please just let me know if you do.
Thank you.

Humane Society of Utah and Petco Foundation Team Up to
Recruit Lifesaving Foster Families at Petco
WHAT: This Saturday, the Humane Society of Utah (HSU) and the Petco Foundation are inviting the public to learn more about the lifesaving impact of fostering animals during the Be A Foster event.
HSU volunteers and staff will be on-site at the Draper Petco to:
WHEN: Saturday, June 30, 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
WHO: Humane Society of Utah foster volunteers and staff will be available for photos and interviews.
WHERE: Petco Animal Supplies, 195 E 12300 S, Draper, UT 84020
WHY: The summer months are a busy time for animal welfare organizations. There is often an increase in animal intake and demand for services. Many of these animals are simply in need of a place to stay while they await a new home. Providing them care in a temporary foster home can help save their lives.
“We couldn’t save as many lives as we do without foster volunteers,” said Deann Shepherd, HSU representative. “Foster volunteers help us with provide a safe home where ill or injured animals can recover, baby animals can receive the extra care they need to grow, and shy pets who get overwhelmed in a shelter can stay until they find a home of their own.”
“Fostering can be a fun, educational activity for families and individuals,” said Petco Foundation president Susanne Kogut. “It can teach children responsibility, while providing the lifesaving care animals need.”
Media Contact: Deann Shepherd: cell 801-747-9136, deann@utahhumane.org
Since 1999, the Petco Foundation, has invested more than $200 million in lifesaving animal welfare organizations in communities across the country.

JUNE 29, 2018 - LOS ANGELES, CA - Punk rock artist and women's empowerment activist, Shiragirl, has premiered the live video for her single "Summers Comin" exclusively with New Noise Magazine. Watch HERE. The track is taken from Shiragirl's recently released EP, Brooklyn Goes Hollywood, which was lauded as "an alternative electro pop-punk reverie" by AltPress. Produced by Tim Armstrong (Rancid, The Transplants, Pink, The Interrupters) and John King (Beastie Boys, Beck, Dust Brothers), Brooklyn Goes Hollywood features a new sound; one that fuses punk rock, new wave and modern dance pop. The EP is available now on all digital platforms. For more information on Shiragirl, please visit: https://shiragirl.com/.
With deep roots on the East Coast, this "Punk Rock Madonna" first splashed onto the scene after crashing the Vans Warped Tour. As the legend goes, a young, determined Shira showed up in her iconic pink RV, created her own stage and performed atop it with her band. After receiving a rousing crowd response, Warped Tour founder Kevin Lyman invited Shira to return the following summer to host an official Shiragirl Stage. The stage went on to host over 200 female-fronted bands, many making their Warped debuts, including Paramore on their first ever tour, and the legendary Joan Jett. This year, the Shiragirl Stage returned to the 2018 Vans Warped Tour for select dates, including Pomona, San Diego, Ventura and more, and hosted artists such as Blameshift, Shiragirl, Elana J, No Small Children, Whitney Peyton, Bridge City Sinners, Turbulent Hearts and Moa, plus new additions Rivals, Vanessa Silberman and Babs from Emo Nite (DJ set). Shiragirl is also set to perform on the Full Sail Stage at select Warped Tour dates in July, including Milwaukee and Indianapolis.
With the Shiragirl Stage, Shira accomplished her mission to inspire and empower women, by providing them a platform for creative expression. She also broke into the boys club, and made Punk Rock history. Shiragirl's story was featured in the book 'Misfit Summer Camp: 20 Years On The Road With The Vans Warped Tour'. She received an MTV Warpie Award, and a spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Warped Tour Time Capsule Exhibit as well.
Shiragirl went on to rock stages across North America, including support slots for Rancid, NOFX, and Juliette Lewis. In 2017, Shiragirl shot a music video for her single "RESIST" at the Women's March, and was invited back to play the 2018 Women's March. Shiragirl may travel far and wide, but her soul will always be Forever Warped.
