It sounds like the perfect job: work at home, make thousands of dollars a month and have a career with a famous corporation. But this new twist on an employment scam is fooling victims into paying hundreds of dollars for a job at Amazon that doesn’t exist. Reports to BBB Scam Tracker about this con have increased steadily this summer, with over 195 reports since February of this year.
How to spot a job scam:
· Be cautious of any job that asks you to share personal information or hand over money. Scammers will often use the guise of running a credit check, setting up direct deposit, or paying for training.
· Check the business's website. Scammers frequently post jobs using the names of real companies, such as Amazon, to lend legitimacy to their cons. Check on the business's website for the employment position and/or call to confirm.
· Work at home at your own pace. Always be wary of work from home opportunities that are riddled with testimonials. Often the suggestion of real success is misleading. Suggesting that few hours and limited work will make one successful is a red flag.
· If a job looks suspicious, search for it online. If the result comes up in other cities with the exact same job post, it is likely a scam. In this scam, a designated number of jobs are available and applicants need to act quickly. This high-pressure tactic is another red flag.

DETAILS: White Castle® and USA Luge, the nation’s two foremost slider experts, will bring the annual search for the next generation of USA Luge team members and Olympians to Salt Lake City, UT, with the White Castle USA Luge Slider Search. America’s first fast-food hamburger chain enters its second year as the official partner of USA Luge and title sponsor of the off-season recruitment program.
Building upon USA Luge’s success in Pyeongchang, the ‘Slider Search’ is an annual off-season recruitment program making its way across the country this summer. The series of clinics is open to boys and girls ages nine through 13, and will provide an introduction to luge using wheeled sleds and coaching from National and Olympic team athletes. Top participants from the nationwide tour will be considered for the USA Luge Junior Development team.
“As a family-owned business since 1921, White Castle continues to innovate to create the perfect lineup of sliders for our loyal Cravers,” said Lynn Blashford, vice president of marketing at White Castle. “We’ve taken those efforts even further by partnering with USA Luge in identifying the next generation of sliders to hopefully earn their way to many more Olympic medals in the future.”
The summer and fall tour will travel around the nation to introduce youth to luge in Salt Lake City, Chicago, Columbus, Minneapolis, Indianapolis, Burlington, San Francisco and Palo Alto. The tour will also make its way to Lake Placid, hometown of USA Luge.
Registration is required and can be completed online at http://www.teamusa.org/usa-luge/slider-search. Participants only need to attend one of the many free clinics and everyone in attendance will receive an exclusive White Castle USA Luge Slider Search T-Shirt.
At each series stop, participants are taught the basics of riding a luge sled at controlled speeds, including positioning, steering and stopping. Once these skills are developed, athletes take several runs down a paved luge course on wheel-equipped luge sleds and test skills through a battery of fitness tests.
Those who show promise in the summer program are invited to Lake Placid, NY; Park City, UT; or Muskegon, MI, to try luge on ice at a USA Luge sanctioned training site. The top young athletes from this group are selected for the next year’s development team.

Tiny Stills is a power pop band from Los Angeles influenced by Courtney Barnett, That Dog, and 90s/00s rock. Their first album, Falling is like Flying was released in 2014 and was a direct response to the isolation and anxiety that comes from life changing events after front-person and founding member Kailynn West was held up at gunpoint. It's upbeat and pop-y melodies were born from a desire to make something that felt and sounded nothing like the she felt at the time - happy. Since then, West has been the nucleus of the project with a rotating cast of band members, but most recent lineup includes Harry Foster (bass), Zach Comtois (guitar), and Tony Thaxton (drums).
After a last-minute lineup change left an opening on a national tour with Bayside's Anthony Raneri and A.W. in 2015, West stepped in at the last minute to complete the tour as Tiny Stills. She sold thank you cards with download links as merchandise after selling out of physical copies of the first record; from there, the project hit the ground running.
Tiny Stills released their sophomore album, Laughing Into the Void, on June 1st, 2018.
