Utah State Senate to Recognize Navajo Code Talkers

 

What:

Senate Minority Assistant Whip Jani Iwamoto is sponsoring SCR 2, Concurrent Resolution Recognizing Navajo Code Talkers, to recognize and honor the Navajo Code Talkers’ legacy for their extraordinary contribution to the nation. The resolution also designates August 14, 2019 as Navajo Code Talkers Day in the state of Utah.

 

“I am very honored to sponsor this concurrent resolution with Senator David Hinkins, our legislature and the Governor,” Sen. Iwamoto said. “Recognizing the Code Talkers’ efforts to help win World War II in the Pacific Theater.” 

 

The Code Talkers created top secret code utilizing the Navajo language to transmit messages, saving thousands of lives. Theirs was the only military code in modern history that was never broken by an enemy.
