Bishop Statement on the Death of Major Brent Taylor
Brigham City, UT – Following the death of North Ogden City Mayor Brent Taylor in Afghanistan while serving as a Major in the Utah Army National Guard, Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-1) issued the following statement:
“With the death of Major Brent Taylor, Utah has lost a hero. My heart breaks for his wife, seven children, and the rest of the Taylor family. Through his dedication to community as Mayor, and his love of country as an officer in the Utah Army National Guard, Brent Taylor set an example of service we all honor. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.”

Gov. Herbert statement on the death of Utah National Guard soldier killed in Afghanistan
SALT LAKE CITY (Nov. 3, 2018) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert issued the following statement regarding the death of a Utah National Guard soldier killed in Afghanistan.
I am heartbroken at the news that we lost one of our own today in Afghanistan and feel completely humbled by the service and the ultimate sacrifice offered by this brave and selfless soldier. The entire Herbert family mourns with this soldier's family and we pray that their burdens may be lifted, and that the hearts of all Utahns will reach out to comfort them in their grief.
Gov. Herbert will speak with Maj. Gen. Jefferson S. Burton, the adjutant general of the Utah National Guard at a press conference tomorrow, Nov. 4 at the Utah National Guard Headquarters in Draper at 12:00 p.m. At that time, additional information, including the name of the deceased service member will be released. This follows National Guard protocol and time-honored tradition, which precludes the release of such information until 24 hours after notification of next of kin.

Gov. Herbert remembers Dan Jones as a friend and mentor
SALT LAKE CITY (Nov. 2, 2018) – Gov. Gary R. Herbert released the following statement on the passing of Dan Jones:
“Having Dan as a friend and a mentor has been one of the great blessings of my life. He helped me become a better governor, and I believe he had a very similar influence on everyone he worked with. There was just something about Dan. You could always count on him to be completely honest with you -- and he would give you perspective and insight that would go beyond the raw polling numbers. Dan is truly irreplaceable. I will miss his wise counsel and his friendship. Jeanette and I send our warmest sympathies and sincere love to Pat and his family."
