Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló to Keynote CER 25th Anniversary Gala on October 26 in Miami

Partnership with ASU+GSV focused on the Road to Innovation for ONE America

WASHINGTON, DC (October 8, 2018)– Continuing to add premiere names to their roster of participants at its Silver Anniversary Summit and Gala, CER today announced that Puerto Rico Governor Ricardo Rosselló would keynote the gala dinner celebration on October 26.

“Given the seriousness of Puerto Rico’s educational challenges and the bold response he has led, Governor Rosselló is an extraordinary addition to our line-up of successful, entrepreneurs whose efforts are improving education opportunities and innovation for learners the world over,” said CEO and Founder Jeanne Allen.

In March 2018, the Governor led a bipartisan effort to enact a pathbreaking education law to address the destruction of education caused by Hurricane Maria, on top of years of poor-quality education.  It provided for the creation of charter schools and scholarships for those trapped in failing schools to attend schools that better meet their needs, including private schools.  The law also provided for the creation of a new island-wide bilingual curricular model that prioritizes subjects including math and science and decentralizes the Department of Education.

However, opponents led by U.S. teachers’ unions immediately sued to stop the reforms from occurring, and for months the efforts to transform education were stymied. This past August 2018, the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico ruled in favor of the law and the work was able to begin, including the opening of a charter school formed by the long-standing Boys and Girls Club there.

CER has provided guidance to the state’s leadership and civic groups about transforming Puerto Rico’s education offerings for students from K through Higher Ed.  Governor Rossello’s participation will cap a day long Summit, the Road to Innovation for ONE America, featuring leaders from higher education, ed technology, K-12 innovators, and the business and investment community.  The Honorary Chair of the Summit is Governor Jeb Bush, and co-chairs include Chris Whittle, Michael Moe and Kevin Chavous. More details about these and the dozens of other participants are available at https://www.edreform.com/cer-25th-anniversary/.

The CER Gala will also feature the newly-crowned Miss America Nia Franklin, and six of CER’s Silver Honorees whose influence in education is unparalleled.

About Charity Bomb

Charity Bomb is a non-profit organization founded by four philanthropic friends to produce benefit shows for a variety of charitable organizations in the scope of music. Our motto is "All Purpose Altruism" - we deliver 100% of the proceeds, 100% of the time, with 100% transparency, to ensure that the funds raised reach its intended constituency, every dime, every time.

Musician & Philanthropist, Matthew Leone was put into a coma with 1/3 of his skull removed after rescuing a woman being beaten on the streets of Chicago a few years back. From Kevin, Lyman & Warped Tour, to Kiss and Madonna, the international music community rallied to bring him back to life. Smashing Pumpkins even did a benefit show for him. Twin brother, singer for their band Madina Lake, Nathan Leone agrees, this is what saved his life. Consequently, the Leone's devoted their lives to giving back. After several years with Sweet Relief Musicians Fund & Help Musicians UK, it was time to branch out.  All-Purpose Altruism - Charity Bomb reflects the ubiquitous truth that love is the antidote for everything. This notion, as applied in our philanthropic context, asserts that we will drum up love, in all of its forms, for a particular cause or purpose, and drop it on the antagonist.

Los Angeles native, professional musician & acclaimed songwriter, Nik Frost, suffered from addiction. When drugs came dangerously close to claiming his life, it was fellow musicians, Dave Kushner & Brian O'conner (Velvet Revolver & Eagles of Death Metal respectively) who intervened and came to his rescue. Nik worked with Matthew on several projects, all a pre-destination to Charity Bomb. We are a non-profit, fundraising and awareness agent for any benevolent cause that enters our ether.

Ryan Ford, lifelong closest friend, philanthropist, successful entrepreneur, an avid lover of music, is the fourth Charity Bomber. Ryan's founded several businesses, MP45 Records among them, and brings the administrative acumen to complement his creative contribution to the collective. In short, we have the purpose, we know the right people and we know how to put on a show. We love a win-win-win outcome. It's abundantly clear that living a life where we produce spectacular live music events that serve a philanthropic cause, makes our constituents win, our clients win, and the fans win.
