"We're honored to join the incredible list of individuals and organizations who have won the Community Builder Award. The idea that people need other people is at the heart of what we do," shares TWLOHA founder Jamie Tworkowski. "We want to thank the Child Mind Institute and we want to dedicate this award to the young people we hear from every day, young people asking for help and asking how they can help others. Our dream is to live in a world where there's no shame in talking about mental health, where it's no different than talking about physical health. We accept this award with that dream in mind."

Take Charge America Offers Tips for Dealing with Debt Collectors

Nonprofit credit counseling agency outlines do’s and don’ts when collectors come calling

Phoenix – (May 9, 2018) – With American consumer debt exceeding $13 trillion, it’s no surprise the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau reports that one in three consumers have been contacted by collection agencies. Indeed, debt is on the rise across the board – from medical bills and credit cards to student loans and mortgages – affecting even the most financially prudent consumers.

“While it’s a common occurrence, most people feel shame or guilt when they’re contacted by debt collectors,” said Mike Sullivan, a personal finance consultant with Take Charge America, a national nonprofit credit counseling and debt management agency. “It’s often so distressing that people avoid the calls and the situation in general, which can make it much worse.”

Sullivan offers seven do’s and don’ts for dealing with debt collectors:

  1. Don’t Chit Chat: If a collection agency calls, you might feel forced to admit the debt is yours, promise future payment, or provide sensitive financial information, but this info may be used to collect the debt if the agency secures a judgment against you. Get off the phone and ask for a letter detailing the debt.
  2. Do Validate: Collectors must provide written notice of the debt within five days of first contact, including the amount you owe, name of the creditor and what action to take if there’s a discrepancy. Check it against your own records to ensure the debt is yours. If you suspect identity theft, contact the Federal Trade Commission at 877-ID-THEFT.
  3. Don’t Pay in “Good Faith:” Collectors may suggest a “good faith” payment to safeguard your credit or keep you out of legal trouble, but even a $5 payment will reset the clock on the statute of limitations. Validate the debt before paying a dime.
  4. Do Keep a Log: Keep a record of written correspondence and phone conversations, including the date and time of collectors’ calls, the employee’s name and notes about the conversation. Likewise, save any voicemails. The log may come in handy if the debt is disputed or the collector breaks any laws.
  5. Do Dispute: If you don’t believe the debt is yours, challenge it in writing, and use certified mail for all correspondence. If you dispute within 30 days, the collector cannot contact you for payment until it’s resolved.
  6. Do Get Help: If your debt has been validated, but you can’t afford payment, consider a free credit counseling session to develop a budget and action plan, determine which options you have to eliminate the debt, and gain access to educational resources.
  7. Do Understand Your Rights. The Fair Debt Collection Practices Act protects you from predatory collection tactics. If a debt collector crosses the line, file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission and your state’s governing office.

White Castle® and USA Luge to Kick Off Nationwide Search for
Next Generation of Olympians

Annual ‘Slider Search’ tour will visit 10 cities nationwide, commencing in Columbus, OH, May 12-13

COLUMBUS, Ohio – White Castle® and USA Luge, the nation’s two foremost slider experts, will kick off the annual search for the next generation of USA Luge team members and Olympians in Columbus, Ohio, with the White Castle USA Luge Slider Search. America’s first fast-food hamburger chain enters its second year as the official partner of USA Luge and title sponsor of the off-season recruitment program.

Looking to build upon USA Luge’s success in Pyeongchang, the ‘Slider Search’ is an annual off-season recruitment program that will make its way across the country this summer. The series of clinics is open to boys and girls ages nine through 13, and will provide an introduction to luging using wheeled sleds and coaching from National and Olympic team athletes. Top participants from the nationwide tour will be considered for the USA Luge Junior Development team.

“As a family-owned business since 1921, White Castle continues to innovate to create the perfect lineup of sliders for our loyal Cravers,” said Lynn Blashford, vice president of marketing at White Castle. “We’ve taken those efforts even further by partnering with USA Luge in identifying the next generation of sliders to hopefully earn their way to many more Olympic medals in the future.”

The summer and fall tour will kick off on May 12-13 in White Castle’s home course of Columbus, Ohio, before traveling around the nation to find sliders in Minneapolis, Chicago, Indianapolis, Burlington, Boise, San Francisco, Long Island and Salt Lake City. The tour will also make its way to Lake Placid, hometown of USA Luge.

Registration is required and can be completed online at http://www.teamusa.org/usa-luge/slider-search. The sessions are free and everyone in attendance will receive an exclusive White Castle USA Luge Slider Search T-Shirt.

At each series stop, participants are taught the basics of riding a luge sled at controlled speeds, including positioning, steering and stopping. Once these skills are developed, athletes take several runs down a paved luge course on wheel-equipped luge sleds and test skills through a battery of fitness tests.

Those who show promise in the summer program are invited to Lake Placid, NY; Park City, UT; or Muskegon, MI, to try luge on ice at a USA Luge sanctioned training site. The top young athletes from this group are selected for the next year’s development team.

“The White Castle Slider Search is critical to finding luge athletes to represent the United States who will someday go for the gold,” said Gordy Sheer, director of marketing and sponsorships for USA Luge, and 1998 Olympic silver medalist. “A morning or afternoon of trying something fun and new could be the first step down a path to glory.”

Over the years, the White Castle USA Luge Slider Search has traveled over 220,000 miles and introduced the sport of luge to more than 20,000 eager young athletes. Recently, White Castle completed a three-month search for the boldest Craver looking to experience what it’s like to train like a USA Luge athlete at the USA Luge Fantasy Camp in Lake Placid, NY.

“I’ll never forget the incredible experience of competing and learning with the nation’s top athletes and coaches,” said Cheryl Holsapfel, winner of White Castle’s Be A Slider™ contest. “The coaches and athletes were so helpful and I even received a swag bag of White Castle gear. This was most definitely a bucket list trip.”

Hemp, Inc. Recognized by Financial News Source TheStreet as Hemp Legalization Bill Gains Momentum

Spring Hope, North Carolina, May 08, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP), a global leader in the industrial hemp industry with the largest multipurpose industrial hemp processing facility in the western hemisphere, announced today that the Company was recognized by financial news outlet TheStreet. The article “How to Invest in Cannabis – In Its Many Forms” published on May 7, 2018, follows recent news that Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) announced that he is signing on as a cosponsor of a hemp legalization bill introduced last month by Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY).

“If you want to invest directly in the production of cannabis, there's actually a way to do that,” writes TheStreet. “Hemp Inc. (HEMP) has been around since 2008 and seeks to be a one-stop shop for hemp production. Growing it, extracting ingredients from it, fiber processing, even selling products made for the maintenance of hemp. If [the bill legalizing hemp] passes, a company like Hemp Inc. that had been there this whole time working in states with their own laws would probably have an advantage against the competition.”

Hemp, Inc. previously announced that the Company applauded McConnell for introducing The Hemp Farming Act of 2018 that would remove industrial hemp from the federal government’s schedule of controlled substances. In a publicly released statement McConnell said, “Hemp has played a foundational role in Kentucky’s agricultural heritage, and I believe that it can be an important part of our future.”

TheStreet’s article featuring Hemp, Inc. also follows the Company’s announcement of its signed consulting agreement with HQ Global Education, Inc. (OTC:HQGE), a scientific research development company. Per the agreement, Hemp, Inc. will provide consulting services in an effort to help HQ Global Education, Inc. expand into the hemp cannabidiol (CBD) industry, which is projected to be a billion-dollar market in just three years, according to a report by Brightfield Group. In addition, Hemp, Inc. announced on May 1, 2018, that the Company encourages large scale companies to secure their hemp biomass now before Hemp, Inc.’s supply runs out. Hemp, Inc.’s sale price for interested entities will be the market price at the time of harvest.

“The legalization of hemp is a bipartisan issue,” said Hemp, Inc. CEO Bruce Perlowin. “We appreciate being recognized by publications such as TheStreet that help to explain why our company is strategically positioned to capture the rapidly growing industrial hemp marketplace. The time is now to join the hemp movement and allow farmers across the country to have legal access to this viable crop.”

Hemp, Inc. also provides consulting services in the hemp-CBD market, specifically in the areas of growing high-quality organically-grown CBD rich hemp, harvesting, and extracting, executives say they will also build Veteran Village Kins Communities across the country.  “Our ‘Veteran Village Kins Communities’ is where we will not only grow some of our Hemp, it is a full-blown holistic solution to the multifaceted veteran problems in the USA. Our prototype model is in Arizona about 20 miles north of Kingman and 90 miles from Las Vegas, NV. It's our way of saying, ‘Thank You’ to our Veterans.”

Hemp, Inc. Announces Strategic Hemp Growing Partner "Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc." Completes Final Site Plan Blueprints.

Hemp, Inc. has announced that its strategic growing partner, "Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc.," has completed its final site plan blueprints for its 500-acre site in Golden Valley, Arizona (20 miles north of Kingman, AZ and 90 minutes from Las Vegas, NV). The site plan was submitted to the Mohave County Building Department for final review. The Company is also in the final stages of completing the necessary infrastructure to support an off-grid, renewable, energy system. With the solar equipment in place, the site’s solar power operation is now complete.

Dwight Jory, the Project Manager for the "Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc.," said, "We are very happy with the progress. Our Kins Community is really beginning to come together." In anticipation of planting to begin during the spring, 300 acres have been fenced, 16 overnight trailer park sites are under construction, and six 40x40-ft organic vegetable gardens are ready for seasonal planting, according to Jory. As for the 6 geodesic domes mentioned in an earlier press release, 1 is structurally complete with only the electrical and plumbing to be completed. The rest are on site awaiting final site plan approval. "We are now accepting volunteers who have expressed an interest in helping to build the first Kins Community for our veterans," said Jory. Those interested in making the first hemp growing CBD-producing "Veteran Village Kins Community" become a reality should contact Ms. Sandra Williams via email (swilliams@hempinc.com).

One thousand trees, on 36 of the 500-acres, have also been planted, with an additional 1,000 trees on order. The "Veteran Village Kins Community" site plan also includes a 100,000-square foot GMP compliant, central processing plant, CBD testing laboratory, and various health and wellness centers to support veterans who may have psychological, emotional or health issues.
Hemp, Inc. and "Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc." began development on the "Veteran-Village Kins Community in Arizona" approximately 6 years ago. Kins Communities are designed to grow hemp and produce cannabidiol (CBD) products to benefit veterans and to generate revenue for Hemp, Inc., the Veteran Village, and the individuals living on the land. Each 2.5-acre lot is designed to be self-sustainable, with 1 acre allocated to grow hemp and other areas for an organic garden, natural beehives, a living fence, a pond, a family tree and other elements that make up a "Kins Domain."

"As Hemp, Inc. positions itself on the forefront of America's industrial hemp revolution, we see our partnership with 'Veteran Village Kins Community Arizona, Inc.' being paramount in supporting the small family farm movement that we are confident will reshape the American landscape," said Perlowin. "As we work toward getting our eco-village up and running in Arizona, we are also aggressively scouting strategic locations in other states including North Carolina, South Carolina, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Tennessee and West Virginia. Giving veterans and other Americans a place to learn new skills and take part in this multi-billion-dollar hemp CBD market is very exciting. It's a big part of our mission to give back."

According to Perlowin, seven "master hemp growers" from Oregon, Colorado, California, Kentucky, North Carolina, Nevada and, of course, Arizona have expressed an interest in pursuing a joint venture with Hemp, Inc. to each grow industrial hemp on the 300 fenced acres in Arizona. Perlowin says he'll call this "The Great United American Hemp Project."
