North Ogden – North Ogden had a fantastic Cherry Days coupled with the nation’s birthday. The City staff and all the community volunteers did a grand job with all the successful and well-attended events of the week leading up to and the day of the 4th of July.
There has been a number of road repairs and utility projects going on in the community— 3100 North re-stripping plan is now complete; new left-turn lanes were created at intersections; the creation of a “no parking or stopping” zone south of Bates Elementary; and moving the crosswalk and installing a pedestrian activated flashing light to assist children crossing 3100 North. These changes were made after months of analysis and public input and will greatly improve safety.
The City has had a recycling program since 2011 when residents recycled 1,058 tons; however, the recycling rate has actually been declining to the rate of 823 tons in 2013. Weber County has implemented a new payment program for recycled goods. Everyone can save themselves money and help keep the utility fees low by simply recycling more. The idea is to focus in on what garbage is being thrown out and put in the right can. To help with this effort the City has approved a plan to increase the cost of the actual garbage can and decrease the cost of the recycling cans. They are asking for people to get a second can and fill it with recyclable goods. The City has set a lofty goal of 1,200 tons for this year.
A reminder beginning in October, City employees will be trimming trees in your yard that overhang the curb and gutter. If you trim those trees, remember to trim to a minimum height of nine feet (9’) above the curb and gutter and back so they don’t hang into the roadway. The green waste facility is open for the disposal of your trimmings on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3pm to 6pm and Saturdays 9am to 2pm.
Summer has come to a close for most of summer activities, but there are ongoing sign-ups for girls’ basketball, grades 1st – 9th registration through September 13th. The 5K Glow run North Ogden Trail Race is coming October 25th.
