Hindu statesman Zed congratulates Church of Jesus Christ President Nelson on 95th birthday

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed has congratulated and sent his best wishes to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints president and prophet Dr. Russell M. Nelson on his 95th birthday, which falls on September nine.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, in a statement in Nevada today, wished Dr. Nelson good health, long life, spiritual strength and inspiration, and God’s blessings.

Rajan Zed commended Nelson for preaching love of the neighbor, efforts in helping the poor and underprivileged, dialogue with other groups, attempts at strengthening and promoting the moral and spiritual values in the society, etc.

Thanking God for his leadership of the Church and his selfless service which reportedly brought joy to his flock; Zed also highlighted Nelson’s various policy initiatives and programs aimed at abuse prevention, adding diversity, allowing girls as ministering home teachers at par with boys, introducing the new Children and Youth initiative, etc.

We, as diverse religious traditions, have more in common than in conflict. In these fast-changing times facing many challenges, we need to continue to work and advance together for the welfare of all humanity; Rajan Zed points out.

Dr. Nelson, a former heart surgeon who is 17th president of the Church, was born September nine, 1924, in Salt Lake City. Formally organized in upstate New York in 1830; The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, now headquartered in Salt Lake City; reportedly has over 16.3 million members, 162 temples, 30536 congregations and four universities & colleges worldwide.

STATEMENT BY ADMIRAL JOE SESTAK

President Trump has said that he has canceled a secret meeting with the Taliban and the President of Afghanistan at Camp David that was set to take place on Sunday - and he has canceled peace talks. This decision to call off negotiations that could lead to a cessation of hostilities is rash and destroys progress made by our diplomats, moderated by our allies in Qatar. It also endangers our troops and makes it harder to one day withdraw the forces we still have in Afghanistan.

In one month, we will be marking the 18th anniversary of our involvement in that country. We must pull our troops out, but we must not forget the people we will be leaving behind - especially the women and girls who would suffer so much if a weakened Afghan government were overrun by radical islamist forces. In 2017, I brought over an Afghan all-girl Muslim team to the first global robotics olympics in Washington, D.C., despite President Trump’s Muslim visa ban. What will happen to those girls if we do not reach peace in Afghanistan?
