Sacramento, CA - May 4, 2017 - Sacramento rock band A Lot Like Birds has premiered their brand new album DIVISI today via CLRVYNT. Fans can check it out now, here: https://goo.gl/jMstb5. DIVISI will be released this Friday, May 5th, 2017 via Equal Vision Records. Pre-orders for the album are available now and can be purchased, here: alotlikebirds.merchnow.com.
"Everything about DIVISI has been a step into new territory, but one the universe assured us was in the right direction," the band shares."We are in a better place than we have ever been: Cory blew us all away when he stepped up to the plate as our front man, and we gained a new bassist/best friend in Matt Coate. We evolved our style into something we feel represents where we are in our lives, we upped our production, and we have a whole new team working with us."
In support of the new album, A Lot Like Birds are currently headlining a full US tour featuring support from Household, Hearts Like Lions, and OWEL. The tour kicked off last week and continues through June 2nd. VIP ticket packages, including an exclusive acoustic performance, are available now, here: Alotlikebirds.soundrink.com. For a full list of upcoming shows, please see below or visit: alotlikebirds.com.
After releasing three full-length albums, No Place (2013), Conversation Piece (2011) and Plan B (2009), signing to Equal Vision Records, and touring around the world nearly non-stop for five years straight, A Lot Like Birds began recording their fourth full-length album on April 19, 2016. Armed with a new lineup of Cory Lockwood (vocals), Michael Franzino (guitar), Ben Wiacek (guitar), Joseph Arrington (drums) and newcomer Matt Coate (vocals, bass), and working with Sacramento-based producer Dryw Owens (From Indian Lakes, Sianvar), the band entered the studio - unaware of just how much time, energy and passion would go into the process of creating this new album, that will mark a new era for the band upon its release.
An all-encompassing, all-consuming emotional experience, DIVISI is an album about life and death, and about love and heartbreak. It is about acknowledging your past and facing your future. It's about starting over, without forgetting where you've been. And about remembering those who inspired you to be the person you are and the person you still strive to be. DIVISI is about the change and growth that A Lot Like Birds not only wanted, but needed.
DIVISI will be released on May 5th, 2017 via Equal Vision Records. For more information, please visit: alotlikebirds.com.

2017 Budget Bill Language Strips Protections from Wild Horses
Horses in holding facilities targeted for sale
WASHINGTON, D.C, May 4, 2017
In a surprise move, language was inserted into the 2017 Appropriations Bill, which strips wild horses and burros in holding of their protected status under the Wild Horse and Burro Act. Wild horses and burros could be transferred to Federal, State, or local government agencies. The agencies need only “the recommendation of a licensed veterinarian, in cases of severe injury, illness, or advanced age” to kill the animals.
“It’s been my experience that the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has a history of misinforming the public about the life expectancy of wild horses,” states Ginger Kathrens, Executive Director of the Cloud Foundation (TCF) and a member of the BLM National Wild Horse and Burro Advisory Board. “BLM employees have wrongly stated that the horses live only 7-8 years in the wild which is completely inaccurate. Couple this with the vague 'illness' and ‘advanced age’ language plus one unscrupulous vet, and the potential exists for the killing of thousands of horses.”
Kathrens has been tracking and filming wild horses on Western Ranges for over 20 years. In the Pryor Mountains of Montana, wild horses regularly live in the wild into their twenties.
In 2016 The Cloud Foundation released a statement expressing their concerns. The Appropriations Committee received thousands of letters requesting additional language to ensure that federal, state and local owners would be bound by the same requirements as current adopters. Although wild horses are best managed on the range, over 50,000 captive wild horses are threatened.
“TCF has long supported the release of non-reproducing wild horses presently in holding to some of the 20 million acres of BLM land designated for wild horses that presently contain no animals,” States Lisa Friday, Communications Co-Director of TCF. “This is a practical, humane and cost-effective alternative to putting thousands of animals in holding facilities at risk. Why not insert this language into the Appropriations Bill?”

NIGHTS GLOW BRIGHTER WITH ELECTRIC OCEAN,
SEAWORLD’S NEW SUMMER CELEBRATION
One-of-a-Kind Evening Light Show to Transform Iconic Marine Park
(SAN DIEGO – May 4, 2017) — SeaWorld San Diego’s new nighttime spectacular— Electric Ocean—will transform the park this summer into a sea of glowing color and energy, inspired by the phenomenon of ocean bioluminescence.
When the sun goes down, the park comes alive with a celebration of illumination, featuring vibrant night shows with exhilarating performances. Playful, glowing sea characters energize the park with a family-friendly dance party beneath the waves. Immersed in exotic worlds of light, music, and incomparable special effects, guests can experience their favorite SeaWorld rides and attractions in a whole new way—lit by the ocean glow.
“The new Electric Ocean is an example of how we’re integrating emerging technologies to enhance and energize the guest experience,” said Rick Schuiteman, SeaWorld San Diego’s vice president of entertainment. “Lasers and lights will create a fantastical simulated underwater experience, like the Northern Lights, but inspired by the sea with “bioluminescent” animals floating through the sky. This unique nighttime event will transform the park into a canvas painted with light. It’s a reinvention of what a nighttime experience in a theme park can be.”
There’s marine life at every turn and distinctive entertainment throughout the park, including gigantic glowing schools of fish that will immerse guests in an underwater world. SeaWorld will become interactive throughout the night, when visitors with special RFID lanyards and bubble wands can change the color swaths swirling about them for a more personalized experience to feel even more deeply submerged in the festivities.
“There is a unique opportunity to showcase a part of the ocean that few people ever see—the bioluminescent glow after dark. For Electric Ocean, we were only limited by what we could imagine,” said Brian Morrow, SeaWorld vice president of theme park experience and design.
One of the most intriguing moments of Electric Ocean will be an all-new fully-interactive exhibit at the Aquaria aquarium where guests will discover bioluminescent microscopic algae called dinoflagellates. During the day, these single-celled organisms absorb light through photosynthesis, but at night, they let out a bioluminescent glow that dazzles. Through fun, hands-on table-top displays, guests will also learn how these organisms play a vital role in our oceans while marveling at their bioluminescent brilliance that is truly real and amazing.
The all-new Cirque Electrique, the nighttime reincarnation of the popular daytime Cirque de la Mer, will feature daring aerial performers in advanced LED suits as they mesmerize audiences overlooking Mission Bay.
Complementing Cirque Electrique will be another new nighttime show will take guests into the depths of the oceans where mysterious creatures take over the night. This illuminating performance will feature overhead laser lights and an interactive RFID experience, high-flying acrobats, live musicians and a parade of larger-than-life animal puppets that soar over guests, making this a truly immersive and thrilling show.
SeaWorld’s thrilling water coaster, Journey to Atlantis, will enthrall guests with a
3-D projection mapping experience that takes guest on a stunning undersea journey.
From entertainment like the heart-pounding dance club to special dining experiences and unique foods, to breathtaking laser displays from the park’s landmark 20-story Skytower, Electric Ocean will do just that … electrify.

Our public school leaders have been asking for years for government to remove the handcuffs. They welcome and need the ability to change their operations, and drive a new education culture. People who want to start new schools need freedom and autonomy and they need a level playing field. The barriers to starting a school in some states are too onerous. Some states require that new schools only use “proven concepts” for their curricula or their school model. Others require that teachers have a particular kind of certification or even that they have experience starting up other schools before they can be authorized. Charter schools began as an idea to innovate and to free schools from arcane systems and over-reaching regulations. This school choice option has united people from diverse background and lifestyles who have wanted more personalized and innovative public education to meet students’ needs in ways that traditional public schools often failed to do. We encourage government to be more flexible and we encourage Charter School advocates to push for charter laws that allow operational freedom, free from top-down compliance and burdensome “one size” fits all approaches which discourage charter schools from starting or expanding. Flexibility is crucial to innovation and opportunity and the key to continued growth and excellence in charter schools across America.
Today we're highlighting more videos from charter schools who participated in CER's "Hey John Oliver, Back Off My Charter!" Video Contest:
Check out all of the contest entrants' videos here.
GET INVOLVED. For the movement to grow and meet the demand of parents in need of education alternatives, it’s essential to showcase the hard work charter school leaders and educators are doing day in and day out. Help celebrate #CharterSchoolsWeek by signing and sharing the pledge to support public charter schools!
Founded in 1993, the Center for Education Reform aims to expand educational opportunities that lead to improved economic outcomes for all Americans — particularly our youth — ensuring that conditions are ripe for innovation, freedom and flexibility throughout U.S. education.
