Larry Findley Leadership Award

Parents and students,

If you feel like anyone on the BEHS staff (including support personnel, secretaries, custodians, coaches etc.) possesses at least two of the following qualities and would like to show your appreciation to them, will you consider nominating them for the Annual Larry Findley Leadership Award?

  • Provides strong leadership at Box Elder High School.

  • Performs his/her job in an exemplary manner.

  • Makes a positive difference in student’s lives.

  • Strives to do well in their interactions with students, parents, faculty etc.

  • Goes the extra mile to make students & staff feel appreciated.

Utah State University Engineering State

Held on the USU campus June 4-7

All juniors who are interested in engineering or computer science as a possible field of study, should consider applying for Engineering State.

Complete the online application: http://estate.usu.edu by March 17th. Registration fills up quickly and it is a first come first serve basis. Don’t wait to until March to register.

Yearbooks on sale!  The last day to purchase a yearbook online is March 26th.  Cost is $41.00.  There is a link on the school’s webpage or you can go towww.yearbookordercenter.com (school number is 7041).

 

There is a list posted in the windows of the library – so students can check to see if they have purchased one already.

 

The Regents Scholarship Program Changes

The Utah System of Higher Education  has announced major changes to the Regents Scholarship Program.  The Regents Scholarship is a scholarship funded through our Utah Legislators.  Eligibility rules and award amounts have recently changed.  These changes will have significant impact on our Regents Scholarship students.

Box Elder County Dairy Ambassador/Delegate Candidate Application

 

**Background in dairy is not needed to apply**

 

Criteria

Applicants must:

§  Have demonstrated past success as a spokesperson

§  Have flexibility in their work/school schedule

§  Possess strong communication skills and ability to put complex topics into context for consumer audiences

§  Project a positive professional image and attitude

§  Be between the ages of 17 and 25

§  Maintain a 3.0 G.P.A. or higher

§  Be a single female with no children

 

Selection Process

§  All applicants who meet the above criteria will be considered.

§  A panel of independent, 3rd party nutrition and media experts will interview and judge the applicants and their presentation of a key message.

DAIRY AMBASSADOR/DELEGATE SCHOLARSHIPS

 

 

As a Dairy Ambassador/Delegate on a county level there is one $1,000 and two $500 scholarships available.  After completing one year at the county level, there is a $2,000 scholarship opportunity available with the state.

 

Ambassador/Delegate Responsibilities

 

  • Spend a great deal of time and effort representing and promoting the Dairy industry at Farm Field Days, County Fair, as well as Local Celebrations

 

  • Travel to several Box Elder County Schools with a program that teaches and encourages our children to develop good eating habits and nutrition

 

  • Participate in several of the community parades and attend a workshop, where they learn skills to present and serve our communities as a representative of the Dairy Industry

 

  • Typical Schedule of Commitments:

 

May: Farm Field days and visiting local elementary schools

 

June: Dairy Workshop and handing out ice cream at local grocery stores

 

July: Mantua Parade

 

August: County Fair – parade and dairy show

 

September: Peach Days Parade

 

November: Dairy Council Area Meeting

Calvin & Reva Wiggins Foundation Scholarship: This is a $1,000 scholarship for senior students that will pursue a career in Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy, Engineering all disciplines.

Class of ’65 Scholarship: There is one $1,000 for a girl and one $1,000 scholarship for a boy. To be eligible for this scholarship students must be a graduating senior. Must major in Science, Mathematics, Technology, or English

Wanda Larsen Scholarship: A $1,000 scholarship for one girl and one boy who will be attending an institution of higher learning in the state for Utah, who have taken Advanced Placement or Concurrent Enrollment courses. Students must also be a First Generation college student and have a 3.3 GPA and 24 ACT or better.

Lowell & Colleen Sherrett Scholarship: $1,000 for a graduating BEHS senior who has been accepted to a 4 year college or university. Must have a 3.0 GPA or better and shows leadership, integrity, kindness, and strength of character. Service, community involvement, and religious involvement are also considered.

Dale C. Young Memorial Scholarship: $3,000 for a BEHS graduate who will be majoring in Education. Must have 3.5 GPA or better, show financial need and not received any other scholarships by time of selection. Leadership, community service and other significant achievements will be considered.

“Tomorrows Pioneers” Scholarship: This scholarship is for a senior of the highest character exemplified through specific acts through their lives of true pioneers of faith, courage, endurance, and family values. Must have overcome SIGNIFICANT disadvantages and show economic need.

The Tyson D. Wilding Memorial Scholarship: $500 scholarship awarded to a Box Elder High School senior who has who has shown strength, determination, and courage in overcoming adversity and trial in the face of overwhelming odds. It is named in the memory of Tyson Wilding who showed great resiliency and courage as well as a positive attitude despite the many physical and health struggles he faced during his life.

Pursuit of Higher Education Scholarship: This award is for a student that has prepared well to continue their education and has taken AP and Concurrent Enrollment classes, but does not necessarily have outstanding grades or ACT scores. Students that have an ACT higher than 26 will not be considered.

Ladies Community Club Scholarship: This is a local scholarship for seniors who will pursue post-secondary education. Students must show academic achievement, school involvement, and community service.

Divorce Matters Scholarship: This scholarship is available high school seniors and current college students who have either had parents go through a divorce or who have gone through a divorce themselves. This is a $2,500 award.

TH Bell Teaching Incentive Loan: This is a loan program through the state of UT with “Loan Forgivness” if you teach in Utah after graduating.

Susan W. Coda Memorial Scholarship: Must be a UT resident, attending high school, show proof of acceptance to a 4yr college or university outside of the state of Utah, 3.8 GPA or higher, demonstrate leadership, extra-curricular activity, and be involved in community affairs.

Jiffy Lube Teen Driver Scholarship: All licensed teen drivers attending BEHS. Must write a 500 word essay that expresses your “inner drive.” There is a second scholarship for students enrolled in a Driver’s Ed course this year.

Mountain America Credit Union’s 2017 Scholarship offers six scholarships to Mountain America Credit Union members and their families. The scholarships are awarded based on academic performance, community volunteer service and a written essay about educational and career aspirations.
