Attached is the Ogden Nature Summer Camps brochure for 2018.  There are age-appropriate camps for 2-16 years!

 

Additionally, the Nature Center will be offering Free Summer Saturdays, June 2 through August 4, with free admission and nature crafts and activities each Saturdayat 10 am and 1 pm, thanks to funding from Weber County RAMP.

Volunteens

 

Ages 13-17

 

June 5th – August 9th

 

9am -12pm (every Tuesday and Thursday) $45 for the summer (includes t-shirt) Serve, learn and have fun with a unique program designed to get teens into the field this summer. Participate in citizen science, habitat restoration, and other projects, all while making friends and giving back to the community. Guest speakers and leadership opportunities round out the summer.

 

Teens work on and off-site with our staff, in a friendly, supervised environment.

 

Birds of a Feather Ages 8-10

June 5th, 8:30am -3:30pm $45 per camper

$6 per camp t-shirt

 

Come learn about our avian neighbors in this camp full of live animal demonstrations, bird watching and scientific inquiry. Find out how birds communicate, how they are adapted to different habitats and explore the science of flight.

 

Toddler Tracks: Trail Tales Ages 2-3

(guardians must accompany children) June 6th, 9am-11am

 

$15 (includes parent/child pair) $6 for a camp t-shirt

 

Cozy corners out-of-doors are the perfect places for sharing stories! Come walk with us on our trails as we make story stops at our favorite natural hidden places! Strollers or wagons are welcome for this program.

 

Under the Microscope Ages 9-11

June 7th, 8:30am -3:30pm $45 per camper

There’s an intricate and important world right under our feet and below the surface of the water. Come learn how to use different microscopes and tools to view this tiny world, as we get up close and personal with soil, plant cells and macroinvertebrates.


 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Toddler Tracks: Mudpuppies Ages 2-3

Join us as we get our hands dirty for some good old-fashioned mud fun. Find out what lives in the dirt as we dig holes, find worms, make tracks and hear stories all about dirt. Dress for the mess.

 

Fledglings: Fables & Fairy Tales Ages 4-6

June 11th -15th, 9am-12pm. $25 per camper / per day $6 for a camp t-shirt

Stories become real as we explore the world of animals through the lens of classic children’s tales. Tortoises and rabbits will race, lazy grasshoppers will be caught, and Goldilocks will discover where bears really live. Play games, sing and read stories with us, in this week of literature come to life.

Think you know what it takes to survive in the wild? Challenge yourself in this ultimate nature adventure. Learn how to read nature and prepare yourself for survival using basic first aid, map reading, GPS, fire starting, leadership, tracking and shelter-building skills aquired along the way. Working with Wildlife Ages 12-16

June 26th, 8:30am -3:30pm $45 per camper

So you want to work with animals? Spend a day with our wildlife specialist to get a taste of the future. Enjoy all the fun of camp along with real-world experience in this hands-on animal adventure. Get up close and personal with our resident birds as you learn what it takes to keep them happy and healthy.

 

Try your hand at radio-tracking, food preparation and race your fellow campers in tying a proper falconer’s knot. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to get a sneak peek at wildlife care usually only available for volunteers over the age of 18.

 

Toddler Tracks: Animals at Work Ages 2-3

(guardians must accompany children) June 27th, 9am-11am

 

$15 (includes parent/child pair) $6 for a camp t-shirt

 

Animals don’t wear suits, carry briefcases or clock into work, but they do have special

 

jobs. Join us for an animal “career fair” where we learn what it takes to be a construction beaver, exterminator frog or farmer bird. Please do not bring siblings not enrolled in class (including infants)

 

Caring for Creatures Ages 9-11

June 28th, 8:30am -3:30pm $45 per camper

$6 per camp t-shirt

 

Snakes, Salamanders and Spiders! All our critters require care. Help us feed, clean and care for our smaller critters as we investigate what animals in captivity need.

 

Feed a tarantula, exercise a desert tortoise and clean a milk snake’s cage in this day devoted to caring for creatures.

Toddler Tracks: Powerhouse Pollinators Ages 2-3

Have you thanked a bee today? They’re responsible for about 1/3 of the food we eat every day! Come find out which other amazing pollinators help plants survive and humans thrive. Learn about bats, butterflies, hummingbirds and more through games, crafts and an up-close look at a real honeybee hive. Please do not bring siblings not enrolled in class (including infants).

Outdoor Science Skills All ages welcome

Join the Ogden Nature Center and the Boy

 

Scouts Webelos Trailer for a fun-filled day of Scout badge activities. Drop in for a few hours or spend the whole day visiting different science stations around the Nature Center. Participate in archery, make wrist rockets, learn about geology, trees, and demonstrate first responder skills. All students welcome! You do not need to be a Webelo to participate.

 

*This is not a typical nature center camp. All participants need to be accompanied by a parent or scout leader throughout the day. Pre-registration and drop-ins are welcome. Nature without Limits, Jr. Summer Adventure Ages 2-6

Specifically designed for children with special needs and their families, come have some fun in the sun as we explore nature in a sensory-friendly way. Activities may include water

 

or mud, so be sure to bring an extra set of clothes if that’s what your little one needs to be comfortable.

Creepy Crawly Critters Ages 7-9

July 9th-13th, Mon-Wed – 8:30 to 3:30

 

Thursday 6pm campout ending Friday at 8:30am

Would you like an up-close and personal encounter with the creepy crawly critters that are moving around the Nature Center? Join us for a week-long adventure discovering and investigating the flying, crawling and slithering creatures that call ONC home. Become a nature spy as we dig through pond muck and search fields high and low for snakes, lizards, insects, spiders and more. Play games and enjoy activities that help us understand and appreciate the creepy crawly critters all around us.

Fledglings: Habitat Explorers Ages 4-6

July 16th-20th, 9am-12pm. $25 per camper/per day $6 for a camp t-shirt

 

Travel with us to wild places around the Nature Center in search of wonderful and wacky wildlife. Campers are sure to have a blast learning and visiting different biomes as we explore animal adaptations up close.

Art Adventures Ages 9-12

Delve into the world of explorers and adventurers as you create artwork based on the journals and travels of such people as John Muir, John James Audubon, and Lewis & Clark. Create illustrated adventure maps, build shelters, draw wild animals from life, and learn about painting with natural materials.

Family Camp Out:

 

Songs, Skits, Stars and S’mores

 

August 3rd-4th, 6pm campout to 9am $50/family of 4/ $5 each additional family member

 

Camp under the stars with your family at the Ogden Nature Center’s Dumke Picnic Grove. Take a guided hike through the center and learn about nocturnal creatures that inhabit the preserve at night. Songs, skits and s’mores will cap off the evening before you slumber under the stars. We will provide entertainment, s’mores and breakfast. Bring your own tent, sleeping bags, mess kit and a picnic dinner. Cub scouts, Girl Scouts, and NON-Scouts – come join us for a week of fun and learning at the Nature Center, where we will draw inspiration from badge requirements of both Webelos and Junior Girl Scouts. Activities include first aid, archery, geocaching, and live animal demonstrations.

 

Water Wizards – Ages 8-10

 

August 14th, 8:30am-3:30pm $45 per camper

Flowing, floating, freezing and falling, water seeps into and out of our daily lives in so many ways. Plan to get wet as we dive into the wonderful world of water. Discover who lives beneath the ponds and what makes

a wetland so special in this fun filled water exploration day.

Digging History Ages 7-9

What did Utah once look like? Spend a day in the life of an archaeologist as you learn how scientists unearth facts and treasures about the lives of those who existed hundreds, thousands or even millions of years ago.

 

Toddler Tracks: What’s For Lunch Ages 2-3

(guardians must accompany children) August 17th, 9am-11am

$15 (includes parent/child pair) $6 for a camp t-shirt

 

A rabbit for a raptor, some wood for a beaver and a bug for a bird! Explore teeth, talons and other tools that animals use to catch and eat their lunch. Read stories, play games and create crafts focused on

animal adaptions for survival. Please do not bring siblings not enrolled in class (including infants).

 

Girl’s Night Out for Girl Scouts Ages 7-14

August 17th-18th, 6pm campout to 8:30 am $50 (includes dinner, breakfast and badge) $20 per attending adult

Girl Scouts, come join us for a multi-age, girls-only camp out at the Ogden Nature Center! Older girls will help mentor younger girls as we cook outside, learn knot tying, hike at dusk, play games in the dark, and watch the night sky. While you’re here, we’ll complete badges for Brownie Outdoor Adventurer, Junior Camper, and Cadette Night Owl.

 

*Please note that registration must be made at www.gsutah.org. We are unable to offer Nature Center, sibling or multi-camp discounts for this camp.

 

THE DIRT:

Camp Policies & Information

 

Reservations and Payments

 

Week-long Adventures and Single-Day Camps

 

•  A $50 non-refundable deposit is required for all week long camps upon reservation

 

•  A $10 non-refundable deposit is required for all single-day adventure camps

 

Requests for withdrawal two or more weeks prior to the scheduled program date will be honored except for the initial deposit, which will be withheld for administrative fees. Withdrawals requested within two weeks of the scheduled program will only be honored if the slot can be filled from a waiting list.

Fledglings, Toddler Tracks Camps and Family Camp

 

•  Full payment is required for all of these camps upon registration.

 

•  Withdrawals requested at any time for Fledglings, Toddler Tracks and Family Camp will only be honored if slots can be filled by someone on the waiting list.

Extended Day Service

 

After-camp service will be available from 3:30 pm to 5 pm for full day camps at an additional cost of $8 a day or $20 for three days. Campers must be picked up by 5 pm or you will be charged $1.00 per minute extra.

Member and Multi-camp Discounts

 

All Ogden Nature Center members receive 10% off their total camp costs. A 10% discount will also be given to families enrolling in more than one camp. Sorry, we will not be able to offer discounts on Family Camp, Girls Night Out, or Outdoor Science Skills.

 

Scholarships

 

Want to come to camp but need some financial assistance? Contact us to apply for a scholarship! Support from individuals and foundations has made it possible to reduce the fees and provide scholarships for summer camps this year. Please contact Stefanie Zwygart at education@ogdennaturecenter.org for more information.

 

Special Needs

 

If your child has a medical condition or allergy that will impact his or her experience at camp, or the experience of others in his/her group, please be forthcoming with information to ensure a positive and successful experience.

Photographs/video

 

Ogden Nature Center reserves the right to use any photos/video of campers to promote our programs unless otherwise notified in writing by parents.

 

ONC reserves the right to restrict enrollment/participation, in the event that participation in camp is deemed unsafe/unsuitable for a child by ONC, either for the safety/experience of the child or for the safety/experience of the staff/other campers. ONC reserves the right to cancel camps due to circumstances beyond our control including illness or low attendance. All fees will be refunded for canceled programs.

All camps will be held rain or shine!

 

CALL OF THE WILD

 

Camp sizes are limited to ensure a quality experience. Register online or call in your registration and pay by credit card. In-person registrations are also welcome. We cannot accept reservations through the mail or without payment.

Kindergarten Round Up is coming up next Wednesday, March 21st. Registration packets were mailed out 3 weeks ago.  If you never received one, please stop in the office to pick one up ASAP.  If you received a packet and have not yet returned it to us along with the additional required paperwork, please consider doing so before the 21st as it will help you to avoid a long line in the lunchroom. 

 

Teacher assignments will be mailed out on the last day of school.  All required paperwork must be recieved before your child's teacher assignment will be mailed out. 

 

If you know of anyone who will have a Kindergartener attending in the fall but doesn't receive these e-mails, please feel free to forward this to them.
