Testimonial memoir chronicles the author’s story and his saving relationship with Christ
ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn. – Adam Dommeyer used to believe in Mormonism. He was raised in a Christian home, though he began to believe in the teachings of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He wanted to reach out to Mormons with the true gospel of Jesus Christ, and this prompted him to write his story in “Almost a Mormon: The Story of Why I Gave Up Joseph Smith and Gained Jesus Christ” (published by WestBow Press) so that others will be able to relate to his story.
The book is a testimonial memoir that chronicles the story of why Dommeyer almost joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but came into a saving relationship with Christ through Christianity instead. Infused with research, the book aims to help Mormons as they struggle with the “troubling” truth claims of Mormonism. It also provides Christians with the tools needed to love and communicate with their Mormon family members, friends, neighbors and acquaintances.
“There are many who are struggling with where to go and who to turn to in an era of information overload. In a time when a resurgence of spirituality is flowing into the American culture, it can be difficult to navigate through the fog of subjective feelings-based religion in order to find the truth found only within Christianity,” Dommeyer says. “This book aims to be a guide that points to the God of the Bible as the source for truth. Many ex-Mormons and ‘almost Mormons’ turn to atheism after realizing the LDS church is not true. However, Christ offers them grace and hope in an abundant life through Him. Truly, His yoke is easy and His burden is light.”
By sharing his story in “Almost a Mormon: The Story of Why I Gave Up Joseph Smith and Gained Jesus Christ,” Dommeyer hopes readers will be encouraged to fully trust in Jesus Christ and trust in what the Bible says, regardless of where they are at. He wants them to know that they can have a transformative relationship with Christ, rather than trusting in their own feelings. He wants them to realize that no matter what they are going through, they can seek refuge in God and know that he will guide them into a life of faith with hope for the future.

Sutherland: Solving the immigration crisis is not beyond our capacity as a society
SALT LAKE CITY — Today, Rick B. Larsen, president of Sutherland Institute, released the following responding to the immigration debate:
"The separation of families at the U.S. border provides a lesson that could change the trajectory of our nation and the manner in which we approach our most difficult challenges. The lesson: Some issues are impossible to address within the narrow confines of partisan politics. Rather, they require us to think – to create – to reason. In this case, the ubiquitous blame game has become undeniably immoral.
"Immigration hands us, at this moment, a glimpse – shocking in many ways – into the inadequacy of rhetoric. We see before us the challenge, the opportunity and the reason to drop partisan posturing – in this case, for the sake of the children."
