Elvis Rocks Ogden 2018
A benefit for the Egyptian Theatre Foundation.
Ogden, UT (September 4, 2018) – The Egyptian Theatre Foundation is proud to present the 3rd Annual Elvis Rocks Ogden fundraiser at the historic Peery’s Egyptian Theater. The family friendly, one night only event to be held September 22, 2018 will appeal to every level of Elvis fan. The evening will include a double feature screening of the films Viva Las Vegas and Blue Hawaii, costume & talent contest, memorabilia and more.
“Elvis Rocks Ogden is back for a third year and will be bigger than ever!” says Danielle Bendinelli, Vice President of the Egyptian Theater Foundation. “The following we are starting to build with this event has been great. It allows us to engage with new audiences and gives the public an opportunity to fall in love all over again with the “King of Rock and Roll” while taking in the unique atmosphere of such an amazing venue.”
The Egyptian Theater Foundation board focuses on fundraising initiatives for special theater-related projects, including maintenance and preservation of the Mighty Wurlitzer Pipe Organ. Campaigning in 2018 to replace the exterior marque, the ETF is looking to attract increased community participation and donations by inviting audiences to come and create their own special memories of Peery’s Egyptian Theater.
“The event will once again feature beautifully designed suits from B & K Enterprises Costume Co.” says Ryan McDonald, Event Committee Chair. “Internationally acclaimed, B & K is known for their recreations of jumpsuits worn by Elvis and this is a unique opportunity to see them up close and in person. The costumes will also be available for purchase for those die hard Elvis fans.”

Colleagues,
The Utah Women & Leadership Project (UWLP) has a number of women and leadership announcements (research, events, and resources) this month from our work and that of our partners:
First, we are pleased to announce the release of a new UWLP research snapshot titled “Childcare: What Utahns Need to Know” (Authors: Robbyn T. Scribner & Susan R. Madsen). This is becoming a critical topic for families, businesses, and society at large, and you will find it interesting. We want to thank our wonderful donors, research assistants, and reviewers for their support (see acknowledgements at the end of the snapshot). We also have a new podcast titled “Utah Women and Mental Health,” just released in our Utah Women & Leadership Podcast Series (you can listen/download on iTunes or on the UWLP blog).
Second, I hope you will join us at our community event planned for September 26, 2018 (6:30-8:30pm, UVU). The evening is titled “Navigating Transitions: Finding New Paths, Passions, and Purpose.” Ruth Todd (former award-winning television news anchor in Utah) will be the keynote speaker, after which attendees will choose one of three workshops: 1) Young Women in Transition: How to Thrive When Life Keeps Changing! 2) Navigating the Home to Workforce Transition; and 3) Discovering New Purpose for Empty Nesters, Retirees, and Aspiring Souls. Details about session speakers, facilitators, and panelists can be found on this flyer. RSVP NOW. Some sessions will live stream.
Third, our partners are hosting some wonderful events this month as well:
Fourth, the second UWLP community event is planned for November 1st, 2018 (6:30-8:30 pm, UVU). The keynote speaker will be President Astrid S. Tuminez, UVU’s new president. Come and meet her for our “Unlocking Your Potential” evening, and then join one of these workshops: 1) What is Your Super Power? Discover Your Strengths as Young Women; 2) Asking for What You Want (& Not Feeling Guilty About It); and 3) Making Connections: How to Build a Strong Network for Women (see flyer for workshop presenters and descriptions; RSVPs are not open yet).
Fifth, in partnership with UEN, UWLP presents “Ask For What You Need,” the latest in our series of tips for women. In it, single mom Kasidi shares her story about finding financial independence and a path to a better life for her family through education. Kasidi’s story is also featured in UEN’s UtahFutures American Graduate series “Considering Careers?” which will release a new story every week through October. Other UWLP/UEN videos in this series can be found here.
Finally, here are some relevant articles released in August: The Concept of “Uncovering”: How Does This Relate to Women and Leadership? (LinkedIn), Why I Struggle Using the Term “Feminism" (LinkedIn), Navigating Transitions for Women: Finding New Calling and Purpose (Square Two Journal, Latter-day Saint audience), and Guest Opinion: We Should Encourage Girls to Play More Sports (Deseret News). Also, here is a new resource for Utah educators and school counselors (parents too): “Encouraging Girls and Young Women Toward Civic Engagement and Politics.”
Phew! Lots of great events and resources for Utahns in this email. I hope you enjoy September!
