Happy Saturday! Congress returned to session on Wednesday following a two-day recess for Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year.

This week, the House and Senate passed a “minibus” spending bill for Energy and Water, Legislative Branch, and Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Act. Shortly before the vote on the minibus, appropriators announced a deal on the Defense and Labor HHS conference report which will now include a Continuing Resolution (CR) to fund the rest of the government through December 7th. And thus, the so-called Cromnibus is alive again.

Heritage Action is opposed to the Cromnibus as it maintains last year’s bloated spending levels, lacks conservative policy riders, and is the culmination of a failed appropriations process this year.

Sentinels Taking Action

  • On Friday, Senator Ted Cruz joined Heritage Action Executive Director Tim Chapman on a special tele-townhall for Heritage Action donors and Sentinels… Hope you were able to join us! Senator Cruz shared how the American people elected Donald Trump to nominate unbiased and unpoliticized Supreme Court nominees. Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination fulfills the President’s promise. He is eminently qualified to sit on the Supreme Court and, since Democrats can’t argue with his qualifications, they have resorted to obstructionism, lies and efforts to stall the process. While taking questions from Sentinels, Senator Cruz remarked, “Heritage Action Sentinels, each of you are Grassroots warriors. You are patriots fighting for liberty!”
  • On Monday, Sentinel Bill Claustre this letter to the editor published in his local paper. Bill did a great job of breaking down why Judge Kavanaugh is an excellent choice for a Supreme Court Justice. But Bill isn’t the only one—recently we’ve had a surge of Sentinels writing great letters and getting them published. Excellent work!
  • This week, southern-California sentinels held a meet and greet at Marie Calendars to discuss SCOTUS, appropriations, the farm bill, and tax reform. Not only is our sentinel community fantastic at lobbying Congress, they network and learn from each other too!

Action Items

  • As the left continues their attacks, it’s so important to call your Senators and tell them to vote YES to confirm Judge Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. You can also sign Heritage Action’s petition to confirm Kavanaugh and share with their activist communities.
  • Millions of Americans are seeing the benefits of last year’s tax cuts. The Heritage Foundation conducted some top-notch research that show how much families are saving in all 50 states. Share the following website with your friends so they can see the benefits where they live: www.taxesandjobs.com
