UTAH OPIOID SOLUTIONS SUMMIT A SUCCESS

SALT LAKE CITYToday, the co-chairs of the Utah Opioid Task Force hosted the 5th Annual Solutions Summit: Instead – Connecting for a Cure. Over 5,000 students, educators, healthcare officials, and community members were in attendance at the event presented by Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Utah Attorney General Sean Reyes, DEA 360 Program Director Brian Besser, and others.

The summit, which was held in two parts, focused on combatting the opioid epidemic in the state of Utah.

The morning session was created with the intent to educate high schoolers on the dangers of opioid use and give them real-time resources to stop addiction before it starts. Students enjoyed musical numbers, educational videos, and stories from families who had lost loved ones to the crisis.

The general session, which was held in the afternoon, focused on enabling communication and support across the various communities involved in combating the crisis.

While the co-chairs were pleased with the success of the summit, they stressed the importance of continuing this effort beyond today’s events. “The way we keep the momentum going is by connecting to the communities,” DEA District Agent in Charge for the State of Utah Brian Besser said. “We are wearing our tires out traveling around the state. We spend most of our time finding those who are hardest hit, listening, and learning how we can help."

The Utah Solutions Summit was made possible by the following partnerships: US Senator Mike Lee, Utah Attorney General Sean D. Reyes, Utah Opioid Task Force, DEA 360 Strategy, Sutherland Institute, Utah Anti-Bullying Coalition, The 525 Foundations, Salt Lake Chamber, and The Mark Wahlberg Youth Foundation.

Secretary Perdue Announces $9.4 Million to Support Socially Disadvantaged and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers

(Washington, D.C., October 12, 2018) – Today, U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Sonny Perdue announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) will issue $9.4 million in grants (PDF, 750 KB) to provide enhanced training, outreach, and technical assistance to underserved and veteran farmers and ranchers. This funding is available through the USDA’s Outreach and Assistance for Socially Disadvantaged Farmers and Ranchers and Veteran Farmers and Ranchers Program (also known as the 2501 Program), managed by the USDA Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement (OPPE).

“From the beginning of this Administration, USDA has focused on increasing rural prosperity and how to best serve our veterans and underserved farmers and ranchers. Helping those who served our country and assisting the disadvantaged is at the heart of our motto at USDA to ‘Do Right and Feed Everyone,’” said Secretary Perdue. “The 2501 grants ensure veterans and underserved farmers and ranchers are well positioned to start their careers in agriculture and continue to give back to the American people. These resources will help strengthen the American economy and provide assistance for those who need it most.”

Background:

The 2501 Program was created through the 1990 Farm Bill to help socially disadvantaged farmers, ranchers, and foresters, who have historically experienced limited access to USDA loans, grants, training, and technical assistance. Provisions were expanded in the 2014 Farm Bill to include outreach and technical assistance to military veterans. Grants are awarded to higher education institutions and nonprofit organizations to extend USDA’s engagement efforts in underserved communities. This is accomplished through various activities including, but not limited to, conferences, workshops, demonstrations on various farming techniques, and connecting underserved farmers and ranchers to USDA local officials to increase awareness of our programs and services while filling the needs for increased partnerships. Additionally, Alcorn State University will continue to administer the Socially Disadvantaged Policy Research Center with a $400,000 grant funded under this program. Since 2010, the 2501 Program has distributed more than $93 million to 398 partners.

Tampa, FL - October 12, 2018 - Post-hardcore group LIMBS have announced that they will be hitting the road this December for a Northeast tour with Currents. The shows kick off on December 13th in Vermont. The band will also be joining Fit For an Autopsy, Vatican, Great American Ghost, and more at AURA Fest 2019 in Savannah early next year. For a full list of upcoming dates, please see below or visit www.whoislimbs.com.

LIMBS recently released a performance video for their song "Father's Son," streaming now, here: https://youtu.be/CIIcYYlS78Q. Filmed during the band's spring tour with Underoath, Dance Gavin Dance, and Veil Of Maya, the video captures the electricity and raw power of a LIMBS live show - from headbanging to mic swings and beyond. Experience it for yourself when LIMBS hits the stage later this year.

LIMBS released their debut full-length album Father's Son on April 27th, 2018. The record, out now via UNFD, gives listeners a dark and brooding look at a young man's journey out of religion as he comes to terms with both his upbringing and his own actions. Fans can stream it now on Spotify and Apple Music, or purchase it online at: unfd.lnk.to/FathersSon.

LIMBS previously released singles "Tangled Hands" and "Father's Son." With adds to top Spotify playlists like Metalcore and New Metal Tracks, as well as Apple Music playlists like Breaking Metal, these singles have seen great successes on streaming services.

Earlier this year the band found a home with UNFD, ahead of the April release of their debut album Father's Son. A conceptual album following a young man breaking free from his indoctrinated upbringing, the album explores the harm it causes and the strength in reclaiming your own life.

A brooding and cathartic album the band describes as "Norma Jean meets Radiohead," Father's Son came together with help from Tim McTague in the pre-production stages before moving on to record with Beau Burchell - the same team behind SLEEP.

LIMBS has spent the last few months criss-crossing the highways of America showcasing Father's Son with the likes of Underoath, Veil of Maya, and Emery, as well as on select dates of the Vans Warped Tour.
