Hemp, Inc. Featured in Oregon's Mail Tribune Discussing Soaring Demand for Hemp and Company's Competitive Advantage

SPRING HOPE, N.C., Oct. 11, 2018 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- via NEWMEDIAWIRE -- Hemp, Inc. (OTC PINK: HEMP), a global leader in the industrial hemp industry with the largest multipurpose industrial hemp processing facility in the western hemisphere, announced today the company is featured in an article by Mail Tribune regarding Oregon’s burgeoning hemp industry. The Mail Tribune is a seven-day daily newspaper based in Medford, Oregon, that serves Jackson County, Oregon, and adjacent areas of northern California. The article includes comments from Hemp, Inc. CEO Bruce Perlowin on the potential of Oregon’s industrial hemp industry and elaborates on Hemp, Inc.’s expanding operations within the state. The hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) market is expected to hit $591 million this year, and it may grow 40 times this size—to $22 billion by 2022, according to a new report by Brightfield Group.

The article, “A fruitful hemp harvest, but for how long?,” details the immense opportunity Southern Oregon farmers expect to see with the federal legalization of hemp. The article also features footage from inside Hemp, Inc.’s hemp cultivation and processing company, Local Processing Center, Inc. (LPC) in Medford, which recently began processing the harvest of more than 100,000 pounds of industrial hemp from the first of many farms they have contracted with in that area. In the article, Hemp, Inc. CEO Bruce Perlowin explains why Oregon hemp farmers are well positioned to profit off of the national industrial hemp industry.

Currently, LPC has the capacity to dry 85,000 pounds of industrial hemp a week and that amount is projected to increase to 125,000 pounds a week as additional infrastructure developments are completed.

While Oregon’s hemp industry prepares for the potential impact of the 2018 Farm Bill that would legalize hemp nationwide, lawmakers missed the bill’s initial Sept. 30 deadline. Regardless of when the 2018 Farm Bill passes, Congress has confirmed that the hemp pilot program regime, passed in the 2014 Farm Bill, remains in place. The 2018 Farm Bill includes hemp legalization that is backed by Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. Hemp, Inc. has previously announced its support for McConnell’s introduction of a bill to remove industrial hemp from the federal government’s schedule of controlled substances.

“We are thrilled to be featured in Mail Tribune’s coverage of the Oregon hemp industry that allows the public and our shareholders more insight into our operations there,” said Hemp, Inc. CEO Bruce Perlowin. “Our focus is on supporting the local family farm, and we are proud to have already assisted numerous farmers in the area by processing thousands of pounds of hemp.

Hemp, Inc.’s latest move into Oregon is a part of the company's national growth strategy to expand operations in desirable hemp-growing markets, including development of our 500-acre Arizona hemp growing community and our upcoming line of CBD pre-rolls. We are proud to be on the forefront of this billion-dollar industry.”

Notably, there are now 40 states in the nation that have legalized hemp. Companies seeking to enter or further develop their footprint in the industrial hemp marketplace are aligning with Hemp, Inc. for the company’s proven expertise and state-of-the-art hemp processing and manufacturing infrastructure in Spring Hope, North Carolina and operations in additional states. Hemp, Inc.’s 85,000 square foot hemp processing and manufacturing facility has been operational since August, 2017.

USDA Partners to Help Rural Leaders Build Strategies to Achieve Prosperity

Rural Economic Development Initiative Provides Opportunities for Rural Communities to Plan for the Future

SACRAMENTO, Calif., Oct. 16, 2018 – Assistant to the Secretary for Rural Development Anne Hazlett today announced the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has finalized four cooperative agreements to help rural communities create and implement economic development plans.

“Under the leadership of Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue, USDA is committed to being a strong partner in enhancing quality of life and building economic opportunity in rural America,” Hazlett said. “Asset-based planning is an important tool to complement and leverage existing regional resources and create a foundation for rural prosperity.”

USDA is partnering with four organizations to help build rural prosperity through the Rural Development Innovation Center’s Rural Economic Development Innovation (REDI) initiative. Hazlett announced these partnerships today during the Federal Priorities for Improving Water Forum, co-hosted by the Rural Community Assistance Partnership, the Rural Community Assistance Corp. and USDA.

Hazlett today announced the following partnerships:

  • The Rural Community Assistance Partnership is receiving $477,208 to support the National WealthWorks Technical Assistance Program. WealthWorks will help rural communities, specifically those in economically distressed areas, implement economic development plans. WealthWorks is a network of organizations that includes the Central Appalachia Network, Communities Unlimited, Community Roots, Region Five Development Commission, Rural Community Assistance Corp., Rural Development Initiatives, and Midwest Assistance Program.
  • McClure Engineering Company is receiving $200,000 to implement regional development plans in four rural communities. It will help them leverage assets to spur economic development and build a network of entrepreneurs. McClure’s goal is to leverage at least $10 million in public and private investments in an entrepreneurial program to create 130 businesses.
  • Purdue University’s Center for Regional Development is receiving $388,949 to collaborate with the University of Kentucky to help rural communities in the Midwest and South develop five-year economic plans. The universities will focus on improving workforce and economic development, infrastructure and technology.
  • The National Association of Counties Research Foundation is receiving $138,780. It will help rural communities develop a peer-learning program to teach people how to implement economic development plans and projects. The program will include workshops, team mentoring, educational webinars, community case studies and interactive learning.

In April 2017, President Donald J. Trump established the Interagency Task Force on Agriculture and Rural Prosperity to identify legislative, regulatory and policy changes that could promote agriculture and prosperity in rural communities. In January 2018, Secretary Perdue presented the Task Force’s findings to President Trump. These findings included 31 recommendations to align the federal government with state, local and tribal governments to take advantage of opportunities that exist in rural America. Increasing investments in rural infrastructure is a key recommendation of the task force.

5 Ways ‘Star Wars’ Technology Is Bringing Dentistry Back To The Future

Dentistry’s transition to the digital age has been relatively slow compared to other industries, but there’s no denying it’s advancing swiftly now.

And it’s expected to progress rapidly in the near future as new technology makes many dental procedures more precise and faster, from X-rays to extractions. For example, it will eventually become commonplace for your next denture, crown, bridge, implant or other dental restoration job to be created with a 3D digital scan of your mouth.

Such advancements will make the patient’s overall experience better. But not every dentist is quick to adapt to new technology, so patients may need to go looking for one who does.

“Do you wait anxiously for the next iPhone to come out?” asks Dr. Brian Raskin, CEO of Advanced DDS (www.advanceddds.com) and author of Better Than Basic: Your Smile Is Worth The Best. “Do you trade in your car every few years because you want one with all the new bells and whistles?

“It’s the same with dentistry. Why would you settle for a dentist who hasn’t updated his equipment in years? There’s been an explosion in new materials and techniques, and the best is yet to come.”

Dr. Raskin looks at five ways the trending technology will enhance dentistry and the patient experience in the coming years:

  • 3D printing. Making 3D printing more accessible has enabled a more digital workflow. “More clinicians and laboratories are using 3D printing, which is getting easier due to advancements in materials and software,” Dr. Raskin says. “It will help transform dentistry.” 3D printers are already producing implant restorative setups and orthodontic aligners, and lower-cost printers are within reach of more dental offices.
  • Computer-aided smile design. Smile-evaluation imaging software can show before-and-after photographs of any proposed cosmetic services. “It will show you what your smile will look like after teeth are straightened or whitened,” Dr. Raskin says. “It can fill spaces where your teeth are missing or repair chips in your teeth.”
  • Digital dentures. Traditional dentures can take a long time to make and may require multiple appointments. Industry observers expect major advancements with materials used for digital dentures. “Design software is making things easier and designing quicker,” Dr. Raskin says. “It will help the productivity of dental technicians.”
  • Lasers. The rotating drill with the dreadful sound is destined for the museum. Laser dentistry isn’t new, but the technology is making it more mainstream. “More dentists will use laser technology to provide precision treatment that minimizes pain, bleeding, and recovery time,” Dr. Raskin says.
  • Better, stronger materials. Silver amalgam fillings have been found to cause hairline fractures in teeth. Porcelain restorations and Zirconium-oxide ceramics are more in vogue as stronger bonding agents and cosmetically attractive.  ”More and more new materials are coming on the market,” Dr. Raskin says. “They keep teeth stronger and last longer than materials used in the past. It’s changing the way dentistry is done.”

“I think more and more, patients are going to expect to be able to enjoy the benefits of all this advancement,” Dr. Raskin says. “Digital dentistry is going to keep making things so much better for the patients and the dentists.”
