"Funeral Advantage stirs emotions with reverb-soaked hooks."

"Tyler Kershaw's dream pop project blends uplifting melodies with downer themes

- Consequence of Sound

JANUARY 18, 2019 - BOSTON, MA - Funeral Advantage - the indie rock/bedroom pop project of Massachusetts's native Tyler Kershaw - has announced details for his upcoming, new album Nectarine. Today, fans can hear the new song " Black House", premiering exclusively with Atwood Magazine at this link: https://bit.ly/2QVvV2U

Kershaw has peeled away the intense personal emotions seen in his previous releases and spent time searching for other things to address.

"I was having a hard time relating to my previous output. I wanted to make art about things other than myself and my experiences," explains Kershaw. "I have a much healthier relationship with Nectarine than I did with my other releases."

The new self-removal from the subject matter of his latest album made way for a more straight forward approach to the relentlessly sad, danceable pop music that has earned Funeral Advantage an international cult following. His music has been featured and applauded by Boston GlobeStereogumConsequence of SoundVanyaland, and Brooklyn Vegan.

"You have to learn balance between leading a mentally sound personal life and the life you try to imitate while people are looking at you," he continues. "My songs are going to be about how certain people deal with that, for now."

Nectarine will be released on February 22, 2019 through Brooklyn's Sleep Well Records

World-Class Paleontologists Converge To Share Their Cutting-Edge Research with the Public at DinoFest 2019

The Natural History Museum of Utah’s two-day event features hands-on experiences for dinosaur enthusiasts of all ages

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 17, 2019 - Take a deep dive into the origin of dinosaurs during the Natural History Museum of Utah’s 2019 DinoFest, January 26 - 27, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Rio Tinto Center, 301 Wakara Way, Salt Lake City. Twelve of the world’s leading paleontologists will provide presentations on how climate and environment influenced the rise and fall of the dinosaurs, how new fossil discoveries have re-shaped the identification of dinosaurs, and what recent dinosaur discoveries have come from the high desert of Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona to the frozen mountains of Antarctica, to name a few.

Keynote speakers include renowned paleontologists Hans-Dieter Sues, PhD, Senior Scientist and Curator of Vertebrate Paleontology at the National Museum of Natural History of the Smithsonian Institution, who will be presenting The Beginning of the Age of Dinosaurs in Central Europe, at noon on Jan. 26 and Jessica Whiteside, PhD, Associate Professor of Geochemistry at the University of Southampton, England, who will discuss Climate Catastrophe at Dawn of Age Dinosaurs: Insights from Ancient Molecular Clues, at noon on Jan. 27.

Ten additional scientists (five different presenters per day) will do short DinoBite presentations from 1:30 - 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors may want to attend DinoFest both days in order to catch all presentations. Seating is limited and is first come first serve.

DinoFest also offers visitors of all ages rare access to the Museum’s Paleo Prep Lab and Paleontology Collections areas and the opportunity to learn from a variety of regional organizations such as the Utah Field House of Natural History in Vernal, Utah, that specialize in dinosaur education and research. Dino-themed activities and a special appearance from Utahceratops will delight the youngest dinosaur fans.

The public examines fossils in the Natural History Museum of Utah Paleo Prep lab

The Natural History Museum of Utah’s own Chief Curator, Curator of Paleontology and Associate Professor of Geology and Geophysics at the University of Utah, Randall Irmis, PhD, will wrap up the DinoBites on Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with his presentation, Temperature Elevated: The Hothouse World of Triassic Utah.

“Since Utah truly has the best fossil record in North America and the Natural History Museum of Utah houses the state’s paleontology collections, the Museum’s DinoFest provides one of the richest opportunities in the country for the public to see collections up close and to converse with and learn from scientists who are actively conducting research,” said Irmis. “The focus of DinoFest this year is on the origin of dinosaurs, investigating how they evolved from just one of many small reptiles to dominating life on land for 150 million years. The DinoFest presenters are our colleagues from around the globe. We collaborate with many of them and together, we are not only discovering new species but new insights about how the dinosaurs lived and the environment in which they thrived.”

“During the age of dinosaurs, carbon dioxide levels were significantly elevated and there were no polar ice caps, said Irmis. “Today, we are living in an environment that is warming with increasing carbon dioxide levels and our ice caps are already starting to melt. So, researching the ecosystems of the dinosaurs is very relevant because it will help scientists make informed predictions for the future.”

“One of the most important parts of being a scientist is sharing what we have learned through our research as well as learning about what is being discovered in other parts of the world,” added Irmis. “DinoFest gives the public a taste of this scientific exchange.”

Tickets are available online or at the door. DinoFest is included with regular Museum admission. For more information and a full schedule of speakers, visit https://nhmu.utah.edu/events/dinofest-2019.

J J Perry tells of a thought-provoking psychological thriller set in space

New marketing campaign is set for ‘REAP 23’

SALT LAKE CITY, Utah – J J Perry returns to the publishing scene with the release of “REAP 23” (published by Xlibris in June 2017). Set for a new marketing campaign, the novel charts an epic adventure that spans thousands of years from one planet to another.

The 23rd and longest mission of the Repopulation, Expansion, and Annexation Program (REAP) is staffed by four couples to confirm a habitable planet and then to populate it. Thousands of years later, the attempt was forgotten except by a cult. Porliche, a graduate student, finds lost information of this long-forgotten program and evidence that the bunker built at its inception to receive the messages both exists and has messages from the stellar-bound saints stored within. What she finds changes her world.

A thought-provoking psychological thriller, “REAP 23” covers the rigors of space travel, of the claustrophobic stresses on disparate crewmembers, and the weakness and heroism of humanity.

“(I was) tired of fantasies of space travel. I wanted a story that is consistent with scientific fact and chronicled space travel,” Perry shares, on his inspiration in penning the book. “It has little fantasy and travel is grounded on current space science and engineering.”

More than entertainment, “REAP 23” also imparts to readers an insight into human psychology and inspires them to gain a better understanding of physics.
