KOLARS

Announce Spring US Headline Tour

March 22 | Urban Lounge | Salt Lake City, UT

"A Superb Punch Of Musical Bliss."

-Time Out

"KOLARS are as if T-Rex and The Pixies had a love child who was born tap dancing on a drum kit

with a no-shits-given punk aesthetic."

-Underground UK

Los Angeles, CA - January 29, 2019 - KOLARS announce their upcoming spring North American headlining tour, with 29 shows including appearances at SXSW, Treefort Music Festival & Flying Burrito Festival. They will be stopping by Urban Lounge in Salt Lake City, UT on March 22nd. Tickets are available at: http://kolarsband.com/.

For a full list of tour dates, please see below.

KOLARS have been touring internationally since the release of their self-titled album in 2017 and have received accolades for their effervescent blend of upbeat disco rock with twangy rockabilly. Huffington Post says they "instantly fell in love with their tantalizing sonics, and their energetic, apocalyptic marvel" while Paste Magazine concluded that "KOLARS play their unique blend with every inch of their body."

They have shared bills with Spoon, The Voidz, STRFKR, The Kills, Best Coast, Shakey Graves, Father John Misty, LP, Unknown Mortal Orchestra, The Revivalists, Hurray For The Riff Raff, Starcrawler, Shonen Knife, RZA, Pussy Riot, Built To Spill, The Growlers, The Roots, Nikki Lane, and many others.

KOLARS is one of those rare acts which descends from another dimension, struts its sequin skin, blares its unabashed musical thrill ride and leaves audiences with their mouths on the floor.

The husband and wife duo craft a full sound through minimal instrumentation: a guitarist and a tap-dancing drummer. Rob Kolar twists and turns as he sings imaginative lyrics with a raw swagger. He spins his guitar as notes sail and scramble through the room, with a presence that embodies elements of Elvis and Marc Bolan with a ragged punky edge. The magnetic, one of a kind, Lauren Brown uses her whole body as a percussion instrument, tap dancing rhythms with her feet while playing a full stand up kit with her arms.

An alluring hybrid of Mo Tucker and Gene Kelly with a dash of Iggy Pop wildness. Studio experimentations are fused into the live show, adding colorful nuances to their performance.

KOLARS produces the music, and has created a genre melding soundscape. The band has inspired evocative descriptions such as "space blues", "glam-a-billy" and "desert disco", with a style that combines elements of new wave, blues, psychedelia, glam, folk, disco and punk.

U.S. Department of Labor Awards $85 Million in YouthBuild Grants

WASHINGTON, DC – The U.S. Department of Labor announced $85 million in grants will be awarded to YouthBuild programs in 32 states.

YouthBuild is an education and training program with a strong pre-apprenticeship component that helps at-risk youth complete high school or state equivalency degree programs, earn industry-recognized credentials for in-demand occupations, and undergo training to build housing for low-income or homeless individuals and families in their communities.

This set of awards mark a significant expansion of the Construction Plus model of YouthBuild, which allows grantees to offer training in locally in-demand industries beyond the required construction training, such as healthcare, information technology, hospitality and retail services, and logistics. This year’s grant awards include 65 programs that applied to offer Construction Plus training.

The grants announced today range from approximately $700,000 to $1.1 million each and will fund 81 YouthBuild programs.

The U.S. Department of Labor YouthBuild program has a network of more than 200 urban and rural YouthBuild programs in 46 states. To find a YouthBuild grantee near you, please visit www.doleta.gov/youth_services/youthbuild.cfm.

"Magnan's urgent delivery, coupled with his emotionally-loaded voice makes

"21 Days" reminiscent of the pop-punk greats of the early-to-mid 2000s

such as New Found Glory and Sum 41." - Billboard

"Young Culture will no doubt usher in a new wave of

thoughtful, intricate pop in 2019." - New Noise Magazine

"(This Is) Heaven puts Young Culture at the top." - Obsessxns

Albany, NY - January 30, 2019 - Pop rock band Young Culture is celebrating an incredibly successful first week following the release of their new EP, (This Is) Heaven, available now via Equal Vision Records. (This Is) Heaven, the band's label debut, secured the #22 spot on the New Artist chart, as well as #53 Indie. The EP has been heralded by Billboard, New Noise Magazine, Indie Mixtape, idobi Radio, and more. Fans can stream (This Is) Heaven via Spotify and Apple Music, or purchase it online at youngculture.merchnow.com.

It's not often that a rock or punk band will make a hip-hop style mixtape just to clear their creative cobwebs. But that's exactly what Albany-based four-piece Young Culture did. Formed by school friends Alex Magnan (vocals) and Gabe Pietrafesa (guitar), who have been playing together for a number of years, Young Culture put out their debut mini-album, You, in the summer of 2016. It was followed up with a five-track EP called Blue. The former had a song, "Bedroom Floor" that featured Derek DiScanio from State Champs - a fellow Albany band - on backing vocals. The latter was co-produced by him and Seth Henderson, who's worked with the likes of Real Friends, Knuckle Puck and Sleep On It.

Young Culture - completed now by guitarist Troy Burchett and drummer Nick Cavin - toured those songs and began to build up a solid following, which remains strong today. But instead of working on new material for the band, the pair, fuelled by an inherent restless creativity, began to experiment, Pietrafesa sending Magnan different beats to write lyrics over just to keep their inspiration and creative juices flowing.

That influence is very much evident in songs like "Drift," co-produced by Derek DiScanio (State Champs) and Sam Guiana (Like Pacific, Coldfront). "Drift" not only redefined who Young Culture is as a band, but also reshaped the perimeters of pop-punk - although it should be noted that they're very wary of being confined to just that genre. As they should be, because there are many more layers to this band.

2018 ushered in a brand new phase of Young Culture's existence, evident in the their latest single "21 Days" as well as the rest of new EP (This Is) Heaven. They might now be just 20 years old, but both Pietrafesa and Magnan's attitude and songwriting ability display a maturity way beyond their years. And while this isn't an entirely new beginning, it certainly marks the start of something that's thoroughly unique, electrifying and engaging.
