Nurx Expands to Utah, Leveraging Telemedicine to Provide Affordable and Convenient Healthcare

SAN FRANCISCO, Apr. 10, 2019 - Nurx, the all-in-one healthcare company that offers easy online access to medical providers and seamless home delivery of medications and testing kits, is now available in Utah. The telemedicine company is focused on providing convenient and affordable options for everyday healthcare needs, and today offers access to birth control, home cervical cancer screening, and the HIV prevention medication PrEP.

Nurx leverages telemedicine to reach those who face barriers to essential and time-sensitive healthcare by offering more convenient and cost-effective options. After consulting with a state-licensed provider, Nurx patients can choose from over 50 birth control brands, many of which are affordable and cost-effective for those with and without insurance. More than a third of all pregnancies in Utah were unintended (36 percent), and public spending for unintended pregnancies in the state topped an estimated $158 million in 2010.*

“We were encouraged by recent legislation in Utah making it easier for women to obtain birth control, although significant barriers remain by needing to find a participating pharmacy, and then also being able to pay for the consultation and prescription,” said Nurx CEO and co-founder Hans Gangeskar. “We’re taking these efforts a step further by making access to birth control and other essential health care even more convenient with online consultations and home delivery, while also ensuring everyone has access to a wide variety of affordable options, especially for those without health insurance.”

Committed to giving people full control of their sexual health, Nurx also offers PrEP, a daily pill that is up to 99 percent effective at ensuring HIV-negative people stay HIV-negative. Nurx is the only company that allows patients to consult with a provider to determine if PrEP is right for them, complete the necessary lab work with its PrEP Home test kit, receive and fill the prescription, and have PrEP delivered straight to their door - all without needing to visit a physical health center.

Nurx also recently removed a critical barrier to cervical cancer screening by offering a Home HPV Screening test, which allows women to conveniently and affordably check their risk for cervical cancer from the comfort of their own home. Nurx's Home HPV Screening test checks for high-risk strains of HPV that can lead to cervical cancer, which nearly 13,000 women are diagnosed with each year and is one of the most preventable types of cancer.

Nurx offers a seamless experience by integrating an owned-and-operated pharmacy, a network of partner physicians, and a telehealth app. Nurx is now available in 24 states and the District of Columbia, encompassing nearly 80% of the US population. The full list includes Alabama, California, Colorado, District of Columbia, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Illinois, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Washington, Wisconsin, and now Utah. The company operates according to state and federal standards, including HIPAA.
