MANTUA, Utah (June 12, 2019)—The Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour (PWT), the largest and longest-running professional wakeboarding competition circuit in the country, continues its 27th season on June 22 with a return to the Mantua Reservoir in Mantua, Utah.
Sitting at an elevation of 5,000-feet-plus, the Mantua Reservoir rests on 500 acres at the edge of the small town of Mantua. The Mantua Reservoir received rave reviews from competitors and fans, alike, in the series debut at the venue in 2017.
“We can’t wait to get back to Mantua,” said Chris Bischoff, Director of Operations, Pro Wakeboard Tour. “Our last visit there was one of the best stops we had seen in years. The water conditions are ideal at the Reservoir for our athletes, which will provide for great competition.”
In the inaugural PWT event in Mantua in 2017, Mike Dowdy (97.83) edged Team Supra rider Nic Rapa (97.50) and Harley Clifford (97.40) in one of the closest finishes in series history. The finals saw all six riders score above 90 points, with an astonishing .43-point difference among the top-three athletes.
Rapa heads into the second round of this season as the current point leader, after scoring a win in the season opener in Katy, Texas, last month. Dowdy and Clifford both reached the semi-finals in that event to open the 2019 season.
In Wakesurf at Mantua in 2017, Team Super rider Parker Payne, who at the time was just 17-years-old, was victorious over Noah Flegel and Grant Witherell. Payne opened the 2019 campaign on the podium and trails fellow Team Supra rider Sean Silveira, who won in Texas, by 20 points in the series standings.
“The 2019 season started off on a great note in Texas and we have plenty of momentum as we head west,” said Bischoff. “The level of competition is exceptional, as evidenced by the how close the finals were in Wakeboard, with all three athletes scoring over 90 points. As always, we are thrilled to work with Marine Products, the local Supra Boats dealer as the Salt Lake City area is a great watersports market.”
The family-friendly event features the world’s top-16 professional wakeboarders and the top-6 professional wakesurfers as they compete for the top spot on the podium and season-long points in the second round of competition of the four event series.
The Supra Boats SA550 returns as the official towboat for the 2019 tour. Known for its clean, consistent and controlled wakes, the SA550 provides a balanced ride, precise handling and the platform to push athletes to the next level.
