Sen. Lee Locks in Vote to Pass 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund

WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) secured unanimous consent Thursday for the Senate to vote on two amendments and final passage of 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund next week.

“The men and women who responded to the horrific events of September 11, 2001 are among the great heroes of American history,” Sen. Lee said. “Since 2011, the 9/11 Victims Fund has always had finite authorizations, and by all accounts it has an excellent record avoiding waste and abuse. These two things are not coincidental. They go together,” Sen. Lee continued.

“That is why I would like to offer a simple amendment to this bill that would authorize $10.2 billion in additional funding for the 9/11 Victims Fund over the next 10 years. That is the amount that the Congressional Budget Office has estimated is necessary for covering all valid claims between now and 2029,” Sen. Lee said.

“Mr. President, this is something that we could vote on in a matter of minutes, fifteen minutes or so, and then move on to final passage. We could in fact accomplish all of this today, before we adjourn for the weekend. This is in fact what I would prefer. I think finishing our work on this bill to protect victims and first responders is worth a half hour of our time,” Sen. Lee continued.

Other senators did not want to vote for the 9/11 Victim’s Compensation Fund today, so Sen. Lee agreed to schedule votes on final passage, and his amendment, next week.

PICTURESQUE

Premieres New Single

"Swipe"

Watch Now on Rock Sound

On Tour Now with Sunsleep

Lexington, KY - July 18, 2019 - Alternative band Picturesque has dropped a brand new single. Fans can check out the music video for "Swipe" - a dark and deeply personal look at the world of dating apps - exclusively on Rock Sound. The track will be available for purchase starting tomorrow, Friday, July 19th.

On the new single, lead singer Kyle Hollis shares: "For the song 'Swipe,' I wanted to address a point in my life where I felt alone and I turned to Tinder to find company. One girl in particular would ghost for a week while uploading pictures of her and some other dude going out and then hit me up to "hangout." Because I felt like I had nothing anymore, I felt like I couldn't say no."

Picturesque is currently on the road for a string of U.S. headline shows, with support from Sunsleep. Tickets for remaining shows are on sale now, and available at https://bnds.us/pajj4n

Last December, Picturesque released "Pray," a song that marked a new beginning for the band, Picturesque are embracing a new rule: brutal honesty, both musically and within their lives. No more thinly veiled metaphors, only the honest truth. "Pray" is their first foray into this territory, with devastating lyrics fueled by the recent break up of lead singer Kyle Hollis who, after 6 years in a committed relationship, ventured out into the world of dating apps in an attempt to beat loneliness. What he found was a culture fueled by one night hook-ups, ghosting and unbridled desperation. It's a dark and shuddering rock song influenced by artists like blackbear and Post Malone - the first taste of what's to come.

Picturesque is Kyle Hollis (vocals), Zach Williamson (guitar), Dylan Forrester (guitar) and Jordan Greenway (bass). The band released their long-awaited debut full-length, Back to Beautiful, on July 14th, 2017 via Equal Vision Records. The album was recorded in Los Angeles, CA with producer Erik Ron (Saosin, Panic! At The Disco).

Picturesque is led by the truly stunning vocal range and power of Hollis and is supported by equally notable instrumentations that blend rock, post-hardcore and pop influences. The band has toured and shared stages with the likes of I the Mighty, Silverstein, Tonight Alive, Our Last Night, Blessthefall, and more.

"Swipe," the latest single from Picturesque will be available for purchase everywhere tomorrow, Friday, July 19th.

Last month, CHON released their self-titled album via Sumerian Records. For more information and to purchase the album, please visit: www.thisischon.com

The band recently wrapped up a successful US headlining tour. Earlier this year, they played two weekends at Coachella (featuring a guest appearance from Kenny G), as well as packed sets at Shaky Knees and Electric Forest.

Since forming in 2008 in San Diego, guitarists Mario Camarena and Erick Hansel, along with drummer Nathan Camarena and bassist Esiah Camarena have become one of the most buzzed-about acts in the new era of progressive rock, on the back of more than 40 million Spotify streams and tours with the likes of Coheed and Cambria, Animals As Leaders and Circa Survive.

Their debut full-length, 2015's Grow, established their mathy, forward-thinking take on the genre, while 2017's Homey furthered that sound while incorporating brand-new influences like effect-pedal-heavy elements of electronic music and trip-hop and debuted at No. 1 on Billboard's Heatseekers Chart. Now, with CHON, the band once again has kicked down their musical guardrails - but in a way that balances their more eccentric impulses with a steadying dose of clarity and restraint.

On their self-titled third album, CHON find themselves at the confluence of a great push and pull. It's true that CHON streamlines some of the band's grandiose, free-flowing musicality in favor of more traditional sonic structures. But, most importantly, simplifying their sound doesn't mean resorting to being boring. If anything, CHON is brimming with some of the most forward-thinking, intricate musings the band has ever attempted, from the deep progressive propulsion of first single "Peace" to "Spike," which spins the band's youthful tech and metal influences together into a flashy riff-athon.

All at once, CHON respects the band's current listeners while inviting a broader swath of new ones in - the rare progressive rock album adroit enough to straddle that line.

CHON is out now via Sumerian Records. For more information, please visit: www.thisischon.com
