World-renowned presidential historian to keynote Sutherland’s annual gala
SALT LAKE CITY—Sutherland Institute announced today that Doris Kearns Goodwin – the world-renowned presidential historian, public speaker, and Pulitzer Prize-winning New York Times No. 1 best-selling author – will keynote Sutherland’s 25th anniversary gala on Nov. 9, 2019.
Goodwin’s Team of Rivals served as inspiration for Steven Spielberg’s hit film Lincoln. Her seventh and most recent book, Leadership: In Turbulent Times, was published in 2018. A culmination of Goodwin’s career studying American presidents, the book provides a roadmap for leaders in every field of endeavor.
“Scholars who have studied the development of leaders have situated resilience, the ability to sustain ambition in the face of frustration, at the heart of potential leadership growth,” Goodwin writes. “More important than what happened to them [Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Lyndon B. Johnson] was how they responded to these reversals, how they managed in various ways to put themselves back together, how these watershed experiences at first impeded, then deepened, and finally and decisively molded their leadership.”
Goodwin’s career was inspired when she was selected, as a Harvard student, to join the White House Fellows, a prestigious program for leadership and public service. She worked with President Johnson in the White House and later helped him write his memoirs.
Goodwin was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for No Ordinary Time: Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt: The Home Front in World War II.
“Doris Kearns Goodwin’s knowledge of both history and leadership are unparalleled,” said Rick B. Larsen, president and CEO of Sutherland Institute. “What a privilege it is to celebrate Sutherland’s 25th anniversary by sharing such a deep and respectful perspective. History should provide an inspiring, nonpartisan learning experience, and her writing is always astute – and, quite frankly, just what we need in these divisive times. We are honored to host and recognize her work in November.”
Sutherland Institute’s 25th Anniversary Gala will take place on the evening of Saturday, Nov. 9. It will be open to media who RSVP in advance to kelsey@sifreedom.org. Interviews with Goodwin will also be arranged on a limited and first-come, first-served basis. More information will follow regarding performing artists, honorees, and VIPs.
Ticket registration opens on August 1. Sponsorship information can be found on sutherlandinstitute.org/gala or by emailing candice@sifreedom.org.

Bishop Votes FOR Budget Act
“… a good move for our national security …”
WASHINGTON – The US House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 3877, the “Bipartisan Budget Act of 2019.” Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-01) voted FOR the measure and released the following statement:
“In 1974, then Vice-President Gerald Ford addressed the graduating seniors of Utah State University. During those remarks, Ford said that, ‘truth is the glue that holds government together, and compromise the oil that makes government go.’ This budget deal is an example of compromise making government go. This deal will continue the crucial task of rebuilding our military after the deleterious years of the prior administration. Today’s move will only bear successful fruit if Democrats live up to their commitments.
“The truth is, our financial woes stem not from spending too much on stuff, but spending on too much stuff. This nuanced distinction lies in Washington’s overreaching involvement in programs and affairs better left to the states. Today’s compromise is a good move for our national security, but to right the wrong of fiscal irresponsibility, we must embrace the tenants of federalism in order to hold together.”

Election annulment please
by Tom H. Hastings
495 words
Russia hacked and attacked our 2016 presidential election and installed Donald Trump. This requires annulment.
Trump didn’t even come close on the actual popular vote, losing to Clinton by some three million votes, and yet seized the White House by the arcane and anti-democratic electoral college, but only due to Russian illegal interference. This makes our 2016 presidential election fraudulent and illegitimate.
Annul it.
Impeachment is a poor second choice. It leaves us with the impossible job of forcing Mitch McConnell to do the right thing, something he avoids at all costs again and again, most recently his blockage of election security bills that would take much of the foreign influence fraud out of elections. Impeachment would possibly clear the House but would be pried from the cold dead hands of the US Senate under the command of Mitch “Swampy” McConnell. As they say in New Jersey, fuggetaboutit.
Even if the US Senate Republicans (Full Oxymoron Alert) grew a conscience and impeached Traitor Trump, forcing him from office, we’d still be stuck with #KillTheGaysMikePence. Yeah, no.
Annulment is a do-over. Yes, it would be messy, since a special election would not happen much quicker than our next election, but annulment would correct the record. It would regain American democracy, so grievously wounded by Trump and Russia. It would at once also be the cleanest outcome, setting aside the invalid 2016 election and starting again from scratch, but with Donald Trump out of office and facing criminal exposure to violations ranging from Obstructing Justice to failure to declare as agent of a foreign government.
The greatest challenge to obtaining this annulment is the same as impeachment or invoking the 25thAmendment to declare the president unfit, in that ultimately all require a supermajority of the Senate in particular and the Senate is Republican-controlled, Mitch McConnell-throttled, thus blocking all efforts in all ways from reaching anything remotely undergirded by integrity.
By far the most pragmatic path is to focus on the 2020 election, this is true. Still, discussing all possible paths to ending the most disastrous US regime in at least a century and possibly in the entire history of the country is a way to engage a creative and determined citizenry. The Trump/Putin collusion is so bad the Framers didn’t even contemplate a remedy. Collusion? Oh, hell yeah. The evidence is overwhelming, despite the mincing about by DC insiders.
Open impeachment investigations in House and Senate. Build on the Mueller Report and build a case for annulment. All this brings more facts to light, educating even the most obdurate fake patriot Trump voter. Stop the fractious bickering on the Democratic primary side and just back the most electable horse to take down Trump with dispositive, unassailable numbers in November 2020.
No one with a shred of decency who is eligible to vote in 2020 should shirk. Despite the fatuous snatch-defeat-from-the-jaws-of-victory tendencies of Democrats, they need unity by convention time and get-out-the-vote mortal-threat levels by election day.

Prince George, BC, Canada - July 25, 2019 - Indie rock duo The Statistics is thrilled to share "Maryanne," streaming now on PureGrainAudio. "Maryanne" is the latest track from the band's forthcoming album, The Robson Street Hymns. Produced by Elisa Pansaeng, The Robson Street Hymns is set to be released on September 6th, 2019. On the new single, Darby Yule shares: "I started writing Maryanne after looking around at relationships in our hometown. There's always this split between planting roots and trying to move onto bigger and better things. I decided that I was going to create a story about that point in which you've moved onto bigger and better things but you still recognize the good things in your earlier life. It's about two people who break up because they needed more but they still miss their old relationship with each other.."
Born in an industry town, 800 kilometres from anything, The Statistics created their own unique style of Americana-Indie Rock. Comprised of Darby and Erin Yule, these two brothers accomplished more in 5 years through pure-grit and a love for the craft than most do in a lifetime. True singer-songwriter personalities mixed with an early love for punk rock helped Darby and Erin create a style that they can truly say is their own.
The Statistics started their journey with the release of their first EP Haunts (produced by Paul Boechler), to a sold-out crowd in a church basement with a blown out PA system. Being the restless hearts that they were, the Yule boys started expanding out of their home-town of Prince George, BC and playing road shows, as well as opening for bands such as Bend Sinister, Birds of Bellwoods, Kingsfoil, and Illscarlett.
By the time they released their single "Jealous Heart" (produced by Elisa Pangsaeng) in 2016, they were doing full tours and headlining festivals such as UBC Goosehunt Festival, Canadian Music Week, and Parks Alive!.
In November 2016, they released their country inspired, regretful single "Old Habits feat. Amy Kirkpatrick" (produced by Elisa Pangsaeng. They were also nominated for "Best Out of Province Act" at the Toronto Independent Music Awards. They finished the year with placing in Semi-Finals at Indie Week Toronto's "Best in Fest" award.
In the spring of 2017, The Statistics went back into studio to start recording their new record The Robson Street Hymns. Produced by Elisa Pangsaeng and The Statistics, the album features an all-star line up of members from Said the Whale, Bachman Turner Overdrive, Colin James, and Wide Mouth Mason. Though it has taken over a year to release, The Statistics first single off the new album, "True North," reached 40,000 streams in the first month and 86,000 streams to date. In late, 2018 The Statistics teamed up with Redwoods and The Fallaways to co-headline the popular WTF Tour across British Columbia.
The Statistics are eagerly preparing to share their new album, The Robson Street Hymns, out September 6, 2019. To pre-save the album, please visit: http://bit.ly/2LJIXln.

Sen. Lee Comments on DOJ’s T-Mobile/Sprint Decision
WASHINGTON – Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) issued the following statement Friday after the Department of Justice announced approval of the merger between T-Mobile and Sprint.
“The Department of Justice Antitrust Division has determined that the merger of T-Mobile and Sprint, subject to certain divestitures and conditions, will be pro-competitive. I’m hopeful that the transaction will better position the merged firm to compete with Verizon and AT&T in the future, particularly as these carriers seek to roll out nationwide 5G networks,” Sen. Lee said. “That said, I have concerns whenever government joins hands with industry to cobble together a would-be competitor, particularly one who so stridently opposed the merger earlier this year. Time will tell whether this market intervention was sound, but it will no doubt invite similar gamesmanship in future antitrust reviews.”
