North Ogden—The Kiwanis Club has given out Hope of America Awards to sixth graders at 8 elementary schools—Kanesville, West Weber, Pioneer, Green Acres, Lomond View, Majestic, North Ogden and Valley. Fifty-four students, two 6th graders from each school, received the award of a certificate and a gift card during a school assembly to which parents and family were invited. Their teachers made the selection based on academics, citizenship, and leadership. Kiwanis members make the presentations at each school’s awards assembly in May.
Due to the number of years that the Hope of America Award has been given locally, we often find that several people in the audience have received this award when they were sixth graders. The Kiwanis have been giving the HOA for well over 30 years.
The Hope of America award recognizes and encourages students who have demonstrated academic accomplishments, leadership and good character. Winning the coveted Hope of America award might well be the first spark in stimulating a lifelong effort of outstanding accomplishment and leadership. The hope is that these students will be potential leaders who will sustain our democratic way of life and exhibit outstanding citizenship traits.
